So back in the day, all the sega owners who really wanted to play super mario brothers should have complained? But but nintendo had a walled garden! How dare they create that!?

I wouldn't even call it shady business practice. I really can't see how "its a peripheral" even applies. Its a new platform, is it not? It needs exclusives. They help out a lot. Do you people actually want to see this thing succeed? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't. But they have every right to make choices and spend money in the manner that they feel gives it the best chance. Its their company, not the whiners who... from what I can tell, seemingly can't even afford the thing in the first place. Otherwise why would they even care? At this point we're all aware, that you've got to pay to play. We put together these big expensive PC's and nobody complains about that.

How about this: Is Doom 2016 locked only to Logitech mouses? And again, driver software for mouses is completely different from entire games being locked to a VR headset peripheral.

I do not recall any game being locked to any peripheral, until the Oculus Rift. And no, VR does not need exclusives, Valve is already doing funding to anyone to make VR games for any VR HMDs, for anyone with any VR headset to play said games!

And that's enough from me, more links ahoy, I've argued enough as it is.

Its still their money to waste in whatever manner they see fit. Given that these contracts are perfectly legal, I have to view the arguments against it as weak at best. I mean nobody says you have to buy one. And its not like now all of the sudden, every game is going to be VR and only playable if you've got a vive or a rift. As for valve, I think we both know they're only doing that because it benefits them. Exclusives are the opposite of what is good for steam. Notice you won't see zelda on a steam sale anytime soon.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, I just can't see how a few exclusives is somehow a bad thing. If the new Doom was sold with a logitech mouse that you had to use to play it, well that's their stupid business decision to make. Its their money. Not yours, or mine, or the gaming community's. Theirs. This is how new and great businesses often get started. Some guy sees how lousy the other guys are doing, and says "You know I could do that a lot better..."

Keep supporting Devs Oculus.

And more exclusives for the Rift!!

In fact I think you should make them permanent exclusives so they never come out on the Vive. That way you would actually have done what you are getting hung for.

FFS I waited 6 months for my Rift. Vive owners have to wait a couple of months for the occasional game. Big wup.

I knew I smelled something fishy with PhotonFanatic. Claiming not to know a single thing about VR, but then using terms like "walled garden" and calling people crybabies. Lmao the guy just came here to argue about Vive vs Rift. rolleyes.gif

Walled garden was around in the windows Xp days lol. Remember all back in the day when there were companies suing microsoft about not being willing to bundle their media player with windows? I remember hearing the term back then. Its been around a good long while.

My only point is that they should be able to spend their money any way they want. Its their money. Exclusives have ALWAYS helped launches. Always. How many great consoles may not have made it, if not for some great exclusives? Imagine Nintendo without mario, zelda, donkey kong, etc etc. Oh but now their contracts were "shady" lol. You do know they only get it for that one game, right? So it could potentially give the developer a big cash infusion, which may result in an even better, later game that isn't locked into one platform. How many devs go out of business for lack of cash? There are a lot of devs that I wish were still around, that could have greatly benefited from some kind of deal like this. But now they're gone.

3 exclusive games on the vive, and 3 on the oculus, isn't somehow going to destroy vr lol. Using history as your guide, it will actually give it a boost. IF those games are good, that is.

I'm sorry but I just can't see what the problem is. Were a bunch of you guys getting ready to play serious sam on your vive, or something? And then "oh no" its only going to be available on the rift?

Valve has done a lot more damage with steam over the years, than this scant few games will ever do lol. And I don't hear a lot of uproar about that...

Ya, good point. Lets just post cool VR stuff here.
Someone made a Lighthouse mod of that Razer OSVR.

https://m.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4osav8/lighthouse_tracked_osvr/

Will be great to see cheaper Vive-like headsets here.

Or really, anything goes as long as the tech can track well by Lighthouse or Constellation or that Razer Hydra, or PlayStation Move, or yet undiscovered ways of tracking!

I finished playing Edge of Nowhere on the Rift today. Pretty fun game, but didn't have the best ending IMO. Would have been nice to see something more complete than what it was. Not sure if I got my moneys worth at $40 for a 7-8 hour experience. If you like the Tomb Raider reboot, then this is pretty similar gameplay. I might try and get TR running on Vorpx after seeing how well third person game like this played.

I just read today that Resident Evil 7 is returning to its roots as a horror game and with VR support in Jan 24, 2017. I'll definately be buying that title if PC supports VR. Seems they were demoing it at E3 on the Sony VR and even people who never get motion or VR sick were ready to throw up from how bad it ran on PS4.

it's because of locomotion people were getting sick... but remember alot of people at e3 are a bunch of baby hippie journalist at the same time but locomotion is an issue that devs are using teleports to get around.
