We have just released the first PC patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider, build 1.0.610.1. This patch focusses on critical issues users ran into immediately following release, as well as minor updates based on user feedback which we could get in quickly.

This patch will be applied by Steam or Windows automatically when you next start the game. If your game does not update, please restart the Steam client or manually look for updates in the Windows Store.

Startup issues (Steam Only):
Fixed C++ runtime error showing up on startup preventing some users from running the game.
Provided work-around for issue where the VC++ redist would not properly get installed, stopping the game from starting at all.
Solved problem where the game would crash on startup when tools like Bins Taskbar organizer or Spacedesk are installed.
Updated options screen with among other things:
Independent mouse sensitivity control for aim and regular navigation.
Mouse and Gamepad X axis inversion
Option to disable keyboard button prompts.
Option to disable mouse smoothing (very light mouse smoothing is present otherwise)

Other fixes included in this patch:
A variety of fixes and improvements to UI including map, basecamps, and Remnant Resistance mode.
New graphics option 'Specular Reflection Quality' to enhance resolution and reduce aliasing of specular reflections, at some performance cost.
New graphics option to disable film-grain independently from 'Screen Effects'.
Improved HBAO+ quality, including better occlusion for distant objects.
Improved NVIDIA SLI performance. (Steam only)
Fixed SLI glitches during water/snow effects. (Steam only)
Resolution Modifier option that allows you to use a lower rendering resolution independent from window size when running in windowed mode.
Performance optimization for situations where Razer Chroma features are enabled. (Steam Only)
Improvements to Razer Chroma effects. (Steam Only)
Fixed an issue that could rarely lead to an error on machines with 16 hardware threads or more.
Fixed mouse cursor not always being hidden when using gamepad.
Fixed major stuttering in Endurance mode.
Fixes for Endurance leaderboards.
Fixed Remnant Resistance missions occasionally not starting.
Fixed rendering glitches on some objects on NVIDIA 6x0 and 7x0 hardware. Some issue do still happen and we are working with NVIDIA to resolve those in future patches or drivers.
Warning messages for users turning textures to Very High or enabling SSAA to indicate high-end hardware is required.
A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

While we expect this patch to be an improvement for everyone, if you do have trouble with this patch and prefer to stay on the old version we have made a Beta available on Steam, Build 604.2, that can be used to switch back to the previous version.

We will keep monitoring for feedback and will release further patches as it seems required. We always welcome your feedback!

That is an amazing patch considering how fast they could push it out.

Glad I haven't played the game yet. The very best part of the patch is probably this :

- New graphics option to disable film-grain independently from 'Screen Effects'.

^ Yeah, harmony between nvidia and nixxes, love, love, love. Too bad they dont balance the vram usage on textures. Probably never. Why ? Because they need to sell some 980 Ti's. Pascal is right around the corner, and GM200 is not selling...

Cool! I wasn't aware of the fact that nVidia also upgraded the performance guide.

I think it will take a year (or more) before we see the Pascal equivalent of the 980ti. I am still in doubt wether I should buy a GTX 980ti now or wait...Yesterday I could resist the temptation when I drove by the shop.

I don't know if we will see a 980 Ti equivalent this year, but there will definitely be Pascal cards this year. Or Polaris cards. Either of those should easily outperform the 980 Ti.

I'd wait if I were you. Even a mid-sized Pascal should be better than a 980 Ti.

I will wait for both Pascal and Polaris to be out and then decide based on price/performance. I plan on keeping the next card I am going to buy for quite some time and I feel that while Nvidia has great support for new cards they do lack support for EOL cards like Kepler. I am pretty sure once Pascal comes out that we will see the same happen to Maxwell that happened to Kepler.
I had a GTX 680 before I could get my hands on a ridiculous cheap 290X and when the 290X first came out it was like 30% better than the GTX 680 and nowadays the 290X sometimes is like 60-80% better than the GTX 680.

Getting 60 FPS most of the time with two 280xs 1100 / 1500 - 1440p high FXAA (useless stuff like DOF, Bloom, etc, off) - on the 15.11 drivers.
(anything above 15.11 has texture/lighting issues in Battlefront, even 16.1.1). I can't do Very high as my VRAM gets maxed out.

I've done a bit of testing with TR today.

Test with CFX ON, unless stated otherwise.
I gain 15 FPS when I lower AF from 16 to 2. I compared texture quality and could not identify a single different on my screenshots.
I gain an extra 20 FPS when I lower Specular Quality from VHigh to Normal. In scenes without water, there is no difference at all depsite the FPS drop. The difference with water is significantly minor at best. Normal actually looks better.
I gain an extra 12 FPS when disabling Pure Hair. That's odd, many people reports a 2-3 FPS reduction.
I get no stuttering at all when I use HIGH textures and disable CFX.
I get some stuttering when I use CFX. To reduce the stutter, I must run textures on LOW.

Shader cache (yes it did work, I checked the sahder cache folder to newly created files), frame pacing, ULPS and HT were all tested on/off in different combinations with each other. Made not a single difference to FPS or smoothness.

I lost a lot of FPS as well with the hair thing, and actually mine doesn't stutter... textures on high here.
