Patch 1.0.668.0 (Patch 7 - 8th July 2016)
Quote:
Adds DirectX12 Multi-GPU support. Many of you have requested this, so DirectX 12 now supports NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX configurations.

The benefits of DirectX 12 are still the same, but now you are less likely to be GPU bottlenecked and can reach higher framerates due to the improved CPU utilization DirectX 12 offers.

Adds utilization of DirectX 12 Asynchronous Compute, on AMD GCN 1.1 GPUs and NVIDIA Pascal-based GPUs, for improved GPU performance.

On the latest Windows 10 version, V-sync can now be disabled (Windows Store version), and behavior of disabled V-sync has been improved (Steam version).

Improvements to stereoscopic 3D rendering, including fixes for NIVIDA Surround and AMD Eyefinity in combination with stereoscopic 3D.

Improved default settings for certain integrated GPUs.

Removes the Voidhammer Shotgun for users that do not have Cold Darkness Awakens DLC or have not yet unlocked it by rescuing prisoners in Cold Darkness Awakens.

A fix for a save issue where some game state could get lost in very rare circumstances.

This patch force-disables the Steam Overlay when using DirectX 12. This is due to stability issues with the Steam Overlay in combination with DirectX 12.

A fix for crashes with VXAO enabled on NVIDIA GTX1080 cards.

A variety of other smaller optimizations, bug-fixes, and tweaks.

Over on the Xbox store the season pass details what the game will come bundled with, which includes three major expansions for Rise of the Tomb Raider. The first is called the Endurance Mode, which is about surviving in extreme conditions. I do wonder if this is a focus on the game's eating and survival aspects? It was one of the more underutilized aspects of the first game, where Lara rarely had to actually hunt animals to eat - it would be interesting to see if they focus on that aspect as well as the weather conditions for this Endurance Mode.

The second major expansion is Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch, which will see Lara exploring a new tomb with all new challenges to overcome. One of the biggest complaints about the first game - or rather, the reboot that released back in 2013 - was that Lara didn't get to raid enough tombs. In the original Tomb Raider games it was literally all about raiding tombs. Just lots and lots of tombs to raid and dealing with plenty of traps, puzzles and even dinosaurs and tigers to battle.

The third major expansion will be the the Cold Darkness Awakened. This expansion is about combating waves of infected creatures, or rather "infected predators". These predators aren't really detailed as to what they do or how they go about doing what they do, but I assume this is like a zombie survival mode where players will utilize Lara's skills and weapon arsenal to take down the infected. This mode actually sounds like it would be really cool if it were designed with co-op in mind.

AMD 290X CFX
4.5GHz 3930K
DDR3 2400MHz Quad.

Settings:

HT OFF CFX OFF
ONE CORE

TWO CORE

FOUR CORE

SIX CORE

HT OFF CFX ON
ONE CORE

TWO CORE

THREE CORE

FOUR CORE

SIX CORE

So the game does not seem to use more than 3 cores at most, two of which are being utilized by each 290X when CFX is enabled. The game uses 2 cores well, and a bit of the 3rd, despite task manager showing usage on all threads when 6 cores are enabled. HT did not improve things sadly. In comparison, TR 2013 used 4 cores extremely well.

Just so you are all aware, I retested with SSAA at x2. The FPS remained at 48. That's a sign of a CPU bottleneck. One things for sure, this game is seriously heavy on the CPU in this location.

So my min FPS is 48, with a 3930K. That's just pathetic!

Nice requirements but that 6gb ram is scary (bad memories from call of duty 6gb ram requirement).

I personally liked Tomb Raider II more than the first one. But the first one was pretty revolutionary in 1996

I picked up the XBox One version of the game when it came out. It was awesome. So awesome that I had trouble putting the controller down at 4 AM.

Off topic: Does anyone think that one day a person who buys a game digitally on the XBox One can play the game on a PC (not via streaming)? I'd love that ability... rather than have to pay another sum of monies to get the game on two platforms... like what I did with the previous Tomb Raider

I dont think so. You buy the game on Xbox and MS gets money. I would only see this happening as a deal where you pay like $90 but what is the point. Just sell Xbox One games and buy it on PC. Can't wait to play it on 4K.

Any Crossfire pedictions for this title?

If Nvidia did not mess it up then it should work just as well as TR.

This one uses a different engine.

Edit:
Quote:
Going though the profile atiapfxx.blb file with these drivers and comparing against the 15.12 dump these seem to be new:

There's profiles added for Just Cause 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ashes of the Singularity, Battle Born and Portal 2 under OpenGL (For Linux?)
(Some like Just Cause 3 have the HighPerfGPUAffinity attribute which I assume forces full 3D clock speeds consistently for performance reasons.)

Crossfire flag changes in Witcher 3, Batman Arkham Knight, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Call of Duty Black Ops 3

I was this close to getting an X1 for this game alone. I had no idea it was a timed release until 2 months ago.

Here is my time stamp.
