I'm glad you love your 6700k but at the end of the day they are both 4 core processors. Skylake is about 20-30 percent faster clock 4 clock vs Ivy. Take into account that my 3700k runs 700Mhz faster than a stock 6700k and that I'm running games at 1440p, I doubt I'll go from 45 frames in areas like Geothermal Valley in Rise of the Tomb Raider to 60+ frames. The game only uses about 50-65 percent of my CPU.

So the game does not seem to use more than 3 cores at most, two of which are being utilized by each 290X when CFX is enabled. The game uses 2 cores well, and a bit of the 3rd, despite task manager showing usage on all threads when 6 cores are enabled. HT did not improve things sadly. In comparison, TR 2013 used 4 cores extremely well.

Just so you are all aware, I retested with SSAA at x2. The FPS remained at 48. That's a sign of a CPU bottleneck. One things for sure, this game is seriously heavy on the CPU in this location.

So my min FPS is 48, with a 3930K. That's just pathetic!

I wonder if it would run better on my 5.0 3570k or on my 4.5 5820k? Too bad everything is under water, or I would do a quick swap.

We may be analyzing your data two different ways. In my experience having my 8 threads of CPU usage in afterburner graphed, the game seems to use all of threads equally spreading the load. What you are seeing is that 3 cores is capable of handling the game. SMAA x2 would be GPU usage and you seem to be "GPU bound" not "CPU bound".

Usage spread across all cores is just how Windows reports usage, even if only a few cores are being used.

Upping the AA to 2 SSAA, and the FPS being the same, shows that the GPU's have been and still are limited by the CPU. It's a textbook CPU bottleneck testing method.

True, but it's not really fair because this can all be fixed via software. Dev's just are not willing to do their bit, probably because publishers make them rush things.

Amusing how many pc gamers on the internet saying add dx12 this and that to whatever games they feel their hardware are not being utilized fully or when they feel games have bad resources management

I'm pretty sure it does not work like that, and given that star citizen that is way more complex and complicated than 99.99% other console centric games out there, is still nicely being developed with dx11, and given how recent benchmarks shown nvidia gpu run almost equal with dx11 vs 12 in the best kind of game that can benefit heavily on dx12, the reality is dx12 probably won't change things as much as it was being hyped

DX12 will have a larger impact as you go down the cpu list from best to worst. Things are ALWAYS overhyped when speculation runs rampant.
