I've got one of these and may get another one since I already have the processors and heatsinks. Honestly not sure what cards would be cost-effective in them though.

nice. Going to keep an eye on that one. Chips are cheap these days too.

I am new to this so I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that you can't fold on both CPUs and GPUs on the same system? If that's the case a board like this plus a couple of $20 quad core Xeons would be pretty ideal if you're just going to plug in a few graphics cards.

Granted, a pair of low-power hex cores can be had for only $100 or so too, so it's not like the upgrade is all that expensive.

You can use both. I only use three cores on my six core. Two more are used by the GPU's. If I let it use all the cores and not set some aside for the GPU's it gets unhappy. lol

What are folding with right now?

Three rigs - only started a day ago so figured I'd try it out on a few things:

1. My desktop running a stock 5775C. Will be adding a GPU at some point, could be I swing by Fry's this weekend. Will probably not overclock anytime soon as I'm still running the stock fan. Guess I could fix that at Fry's too... (Windows 10 Pro, 25-30k ppd))

2. Home media server running a pair of L5640 hex core Xeons. Will be upgrading it to X5680s this weekend. (Windows 7 Ultimate, 45-50k ppd)

3. My wife's iMac with an i5 4690 in it. Runs surprisingly cool. (OS X, pushing 16-20k ppd)

4? I have another board for those L5640s but no memory or PSU. I could cannibalize some memory from the media server and grab a cheapish PSU to get it running for next week. I don't know that I'll be that motivated though, given the little these things are putting out compared to GPU solutions. frown.gif

Intent is the media server will run it more or less forever. It's been running full tilt the last 24 hours without a problem, and supports all normal media functions without a hiccup. It'll blow some heat with the 5680s though - 130w TDP apiece - so that should be interesting. I'll probably shut it down on the iMac after next week, and back off a bit on my own desktop. I'll have another permanent 1366 setup running eventually with a few GPUs, but I think that's a ways out right now.

I'm just using the stock client from the Stanford website without doing any special configuring or anything, so I assume there may be improvements to be had?

Also - the ppd numbers listed are those from the client. Judging from actual numbers received it looks like combined I'm really somewhere around 60k? Seems a bit misleading.

Interesting. I'll need to play around with this someday.

Edit:

Looks like the average listed PPD is stabilizing for me - those first 10 WUs that didn't have the bonus points must have been affecting the average.

Hey guys - the FFW begins at 12PM UTC Feb 1st (which is 7AM in my time zone) - right? If I just leave the rigs running overnight do the PPD from 12PM UTC forward simply get logged into the comp or are only WU started after 12 UTC counted?

Right people...switching on everything tomorrow to get it rolling for the start.

I am bringing the following to the war:

F@H client:
1x 980Ti @ 1480Mhz
1x 980 @ 1497Mhz
1x 680 @ 1210Mhz
1x 3570k @ 4.6Ghz

NaCl client over night
I5 2520m @ 2.5Ghz

Total expected ppd 1.02M

Bring it on!

Edit - add 2x gt630 kepler versions to that...they are not doing anything and I have 2 spare slots...lazy so&sos
