sounds like price gouging coming started by intel

but then 1500 is cheaper than paying over 2000 for 3.1 ghz xeon
isnt there a 2500$ server cpu out there or was it morethan that I forget

Even at $1500, this CPU will sell like hotcakes. I'll bet that this chip is being released as a test to see if the market will go for a higher priced enthusiast CPU. If this new premium CPU ends up selling well at the new price point (I believe strongly that it will, much like the Titan), we will likely see even higher priced unlocked CPUs with a higher core counts in the future, perhaps even a lineup that matches the Xeon for core count (and price) all the way up the SKU stack, say with an i7 Extreme model say for each die size of Xeon. Call it a Xeon Extreme Edition lineup drool.gif. And maybe, just maybe, an unlocked, dual-capable chip...wink.gif

So if you want to see an unlocked high core count chip materialize, buy the new unlocked 10-core...biggrin.gif

They already have lower speed 10c CPUs for ~$1200: http://ark.intel.com/products/81705/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E5-2650-v3-25M-Cache-2_30-GHz I can see them putting the 10c Broadwell-E part in @ $999 and having the lowest-end 10c Broadwell-EP part in for even cheaper (I'd estimate $700).

yeah but the sentiments of the power user is like this

on tool time they don't talk about price

pitty linus isn't the next tool time tim taylor??? or is he???

We can all just start praying to God that Zen will put serious pressure on Intel not to price gouge their next few releases. Unlikely I know but AMD is our only hope to head off higher and higher chip prices from Big Blue...

it would be stupid not to release another one with a similar price.
