They already designed a symmetrical mouse with side buttons. If they make another symmetrical shape, it would be nice to have a Diamondback shape without grooves and better side buttons.

This thread is about making an ergonomic shape that is similar to the IntelliMouse Explorer 3.

No, this thread is not about making an ergonomic shape that is similar to IntelliMouse Explorer 3.

This thread is about various design ideas that can be implemented.

At the moment we are leaning towards an IE 3.0 eque shape because it fills the next obvious void in the shape lineup (ergonomic without grip groove) and also because scream is a heavy advocate of the shape. Right now we would greatly appreciate input on siZe, materials, certain curvatures, etc... We think the IE 3.0 may be too large so we want to reduce the size and also most likely reduce the curvature. And obviously the weight needs to be kept down.

Keep in mind we are in the brainstorming phase so right now I'll just be absorbing any and all input I get.

Thanks,
Jude

How about few different firmwares with different dpi steps available, such as v1: 400/800/1600/3200, v2: 450/900/1800/3600, v3: 500/1000/2000/4000, similar to cm storm alcor firmwares. Simplistic drivers with polling rate/ dpi steps, can do the job too.

@Avant Garde

Scream wants an IE3 like mouse. Go ask him if you think otherwise. Therefore FM is going to make a mouse like that.

Their IMO/Sensei type mouse exists already.

Ok. So if that guy Scream or whatever wants IE3 like mouse what is the purpose of this thread? smile.gif

And btw that FM Tournament Pro is not like IMO/Sensei shape but it is a bit close.

I wish them all the luck with that model.

IE3 'like'. tongue.gif

Think it's fair.

First a DA / WMO type mouse, then a large ergo type.

If you gonna steal from someone, steal from the best. And nought wrong with that as far as I'm concerned, mouse designs aren't freaking art, unless you're into Apple marketing or something.

Then maybe a Scream 3, Kana / Xornet type, for those weirdos with tiny hands / noodle fingers.

Well, as you said, if youre gonna steal from someone, steal from the best, so why would you steal the Deathadder, or Zowie EC series shape over the amazing perfection that is the Intellimouse 3.0 shape?

I wonder if people that dont want a replica has actually used one for an extended time at all sometimes :\

I think there can definitely be some improvements made to the original inspiration shape.

Some ideas we are toying around with:
-adding very subtle groove on left side
-reducing overall size by 3mm both width and length wise

What you would be left with is still the iconic support area on the right along with the iconic shape.... giving palm players that same comfort they enjoyed from the original IE 3.0. It improves the lifting capability, and also caters more to fingertip and claw users at the same time with the reduced size.

Eager to hear all of your thoughts. I greatly appreciate all this enthusiastic feedback and input, there have been a lot of helpful ideas put out there thus far.

Kind Regards,
Jude

I think the suggestions listed here would make an ideal product. Any IE 3.0 clones always seem to want to make the mouse fatter and taller. The 3.0 I felt balanced the height and length well and lead to ideal shape for palm grip users. Mice that share a similar shape like the DA and EC always feel the need to make the mouse taller by a bit which makes it awkward to hold and pick up, at least for me.

If you kept materials used similar to the Finalmouse Egro on the left side with the indented plastic side and a rubber top coat while adding a 3360 and making the overall shape slightly smaller would be an awesome build.
