I intended it as Radeon gpus are more powerful than the value attached to them. They had a secondary role and it got called out that they were more valuable than the sticker price for their primary usage and that busted the market for their primary role and curbed their sales, so I dropped in to say they are as potent as ever in their first role as well. You cannot go wrong with a gpu from which directx 12 was formed.
Sharing any excitement about directx 12 is an offense now, all of a sudden? smile.gif
Also, asynchronous shaders! Suppose the same performance gain in consoles applies to discrete gpus - you now have a Fury X instead of R9 290X when ASC is utilized. I wouldn't kid about the repercussions of a 42% upgrade.

The fact is the mining craze was a huge factor. No one could have predicted the results. First Nvidia gimps compute performance in their consumer cards. Mining craze hits and AMD is far and away the better GPU so they sellout. Supply chain for AIB's pcb components can't cope with demand, prices go up. Supply shortage was not AMD's fault. Mining craze ends, now there are tons of cheap 2nd hand gpu's on the market. It literally almost killed AMD
Perfect example of how Nvidia gimped their products and were rewarded for it with increased market share. Go figure.

On topic, I really have no doubt that Nvidia is exactly where they want to be and are showing exactly what they want to show, when they want to show it. Kudos to them for venturing into the Auto market. Though I'm sure it will make some nervous that Nvidia may lose focus on **our** baby that is GPU's.

It would make a great episode of a television show.

As for Rebranding... 9800GTX, 8800GT, 9800GTX+ etc.

We've seen rebranding from both brands.
Cypress chips did meet success and helped AMD but price and availability was not here in my country for example and nVidia GTX 470 was priced lower to counter AMD offensive and it did work quite well for them (Cayman was easy task for GTX 5X0 too).

nVidia rebrand when they dominate the market, AMD rebrand whan they're falling down.
Just why ? The more and more it ssems that AMD don't have the financial resources to face multiple projects.

Amd and Nvidia rebrand when they don't have anything new to show to the market.

The whining about 970 is due to the completely fabricated "controversy" about 3.5 GB. Take away that noise, and it's a phenomenal product that received phenomenal reviews and performance benchmarks.
