Very tricky Corsair 2133Mhz RAM - stable @ 2200Mhz 10-11-10-30 1T @ 1.65v, but won't boot into Windows @ 2200Mhz 10-10-10-30 1T @ 1.65v!

Thread Starter
The topic says it all. I have 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance kind of cheapo CMZ8GX3M2A2133C11 2133Mhz 11-11-11-30 2T 1.50v. RAM. However, there are 2 versions/revisions - 4.xx and 8.xx. I made sure that Dual Channel is properly configured (version 4.xx in DRAM Slots 1 and 3, and Version 8.xx in DRAM Slots 2 and 4 OR vice versa - make no difference). The model number is identical, but one version is rated at 11-11-11-27 1T and the other rated at 11-11-11-30 2T. The absolute best OC I can get out of all 4 sticks is 2200Mhz 10-11-10-30 1T @ 1.65v . It is perfectly stable at those settings and never caused a problem and yet, if I change 10-11-10-30 1T to 10-10-10-30 1T (also at 1.65v)., then I won't be able to get into Windows due to all kinds of .DLL errors during boot-up or full system restart once Windows loaded into Desktop.

Now I probably won't be able to push such RAM any further. I tried 12-12-12-34 2T @ 1.65v and got crashes. Timings looser than CL12 probably will reduce overall performance even @ 2400Mhz. In DIGI+ ASUS P8Z77-V Pro settings, Load-Line Calibration is already at Ultra-High (one notch below the highest Extreme), DRAM and CPU frequencies are at 500kHz (is this dangerous???), and Power Cycling is at 151 and 131 (%'s I guess?).

I am only posting because I am curious how a single decrease from 10-11-10-30 1T to 10-10-10-30 at the same 2200Mhz can make a difference between 100% Prime95 24hr stable and non-functional forever-rebooting PC... Maybe some of my settings are off? Right now my CPU+motherboard+RAM pass 24hr Prime95 Small FFT's (Maximum Heat, little RAM) and Blend (Heavy on RAM) Torture Tests while at the same time GPU is rendering Unigine Heaven and encoding HEVC videos, a film is being played through madVR + LAV Filters + MPC+HC (choppy of course).and a huge file is being downloaded via uTorrent. I think all that together is a very heavy test, but it all passes with flying colors.

Corsair ram has never really been any good at overclocking until you get into the platinum kits and the OLD dominator stuff.

Corsair will bin their ram pretty darn well. If they are selling a 2133mhz kit, it is because that is about as fast as they could get the sticks to run in a reliable and consistent manor.

So right out of the box, those sticks do not want to really go any faster. You pushed them a little bit, and quickly found the tipping point for instability.

There is no real big secret here other than the simple fact that you did not have a hell of a lot of head room to begin with.

I would go back down to 2133 mhz so that you can keep the 100:133 ratio and then focus on getting lower timings.

I go by what gives me the highest bandwidth and the fact that CPU-dependent games respond more to clocks rather than timings. I also think 100:100 ratio makes a lot more sense. That way both RAM and bus are in-sync. Thanks for advice though!
As for bandwidth....yeahhhhhhhhhh. But I seriously doubt the jump from 2133 to 2200 makes a bit of difference. The most I have ever personally seen in FPS jump was when I went from 1600 to 2400 and I only got 4 fps.

And while what you said about the bus makes sense, I just get better results with 100:133.

I'm personally fine with 2.0v ddr3 24/7, but I recommend max of 1.8v for a daily rig. Don't be scared to push a but and up your NB voltage.
