Worried about CPU temps - Page 3

Well my case setup is with stock CM fans, rear, 2 on top and one on front. I added 2 120m on the HHD case and one on the bottom. They all work, one of the fans rattles a bit only when the room is below 21c but after 5 years, no wonder.
I think the airflow is nice apart from the cpu issue. The cpu fan makes a lot of noise when cpu is around 25% usage. I'm gonna take a look at it inside tonight and take measurements for ram distance.

Don't buy a new cooler right away. Start by cleaning cooler, cpu (with isopropyl 99% and Q-tips, until Q-tips stay white), apply thermal paste, reinstall and test. No need to invest in a cpu cooler since you will most likely endup changing it in less than 2 years.

I'm out of luck for the alcohol, only have denatured 90% here, still okay?
yes, as long as it's not 70% rubbing alcohol.

Okay thanks smile.gif
Well I still might be better off with a new cooler because I don't have AC and when the temp rises above 30c in the room during summer time, the PC is having a hard time and it gets very loud.

I just finished measuring and the evo actually fits nicely.
It says 77mm with the fan on the graphic image on cooler master's website and 80mm on the specs page, confusing to say the least, anyways i tool 80mm to be sure and it fits.
I even tried the noctua nh-u14s measurements and it fits.
I've actually been looking the nh-u12s a lot

Take our stock cooler out, clean the old TIM off of it, then with fan removed wash it hot soapy water in kitchen sink. This will remove any and all dirt and oily film that has collected on it over the years. Rinse and shake it dry, then put it in a warm place to dry or use a hair dryer on it to get it nice and dry. Reinstall with new TIM.

Your new R9 390 makes lots of heat .. and this might be the cause of a god part of your problems. You might find "Ways to Better Cooling" linked in my sig helpful. 1st post is index, click on topics of interest to see them. I suggest 'optimizing case airflow' as a starting point.

As for getting a new cooler. I have not used a stock cooler in 15 years. But what cooler to get depends on what cooler selection and prices are in your area. What websites do you shop on? Give us the links and we will be better able to help you chose the best cooling at best price.

The 390x heats up yeah but I didn't even OC it yet and it's running pretty cool in my CM 840 case. Motherboard temp hardly goes up.
i shop on amazon in France. The NH-D15S runs for 80 euros and it's one of the best. The Evo is around 35 euros but I'd be more inclined to get a Noctua, it's just an all around better cooler. NH-U12S or U14S or D15S.

Check out the PH-TC14PE on CaseKing.de for 69.90€ plus post. Probably a better deal. Definitely as good a cooler. What is your RAM heigth?

just a quick update, I still got the stock cooler for now but I reapplied some thermal paste. I'm around 84/84/80/81 degrees Celsius on the cores using real temp while running Prime95 and it doesn't directly bump to those numbers. Before, it bumped to 100 degrees as soon as I started Prime95. The old paste was very dry. This was my first time changing thermal compound.
