Surface Pro 4 may have a huge leap over Surface Pro 3 but the cost plus the Type Cover.

I know TMatzelles60 does not use it for school or artist instead use in-home 2-in1 laptop/tablet use. Spending at least $900 dollar or $800 dollar ($100 off Surface Pro 4 Intel Core m3 model) without including Type Cover is still a lot compare to Surface Pro 3 i3/4GB/128GB $599 to $499.

Don't get me wrong. Surface Pro 4 is awesome if you can find a good price for it. It does fixes a lot of bugs that Surface Pro 3 had, but it is up to TMatzelles60 to determine the good approach on buying a product.

I wasn't steering anyone in any certain way. Was only stating the differences in the hardware between the 2 platforms. I also said will the 3 affect the way you do things, if not it's still a great machine. Either of them are nice, it's just what matters to you as far as what options he / she would want out of it.

I was close to buying the surface 4 when it was coming out, but I ended up going to a very nice gaming laptop instead. I personally needed more Cpu power than what the Dual core i5 Skylake had to offer. In Cinebench R15, the cpu only gets around 180 points in the multi threaded test. That's just not enough for my needs so I had to choose a different route. It's still a powerful low power cpu tho for what it is. The i-gpu is pretty decent too. Then there's the extra costs like you said with the type cover and docks and whatnot that made the price jump up quite a bit and I was looking at spending over $1400 in the end with no upgrade options from there. But you can't beat how small, light weight, and portable those things are and it's a cool little pc to have.

If all I cared about was watching youtube video's or surfing the net on the couch, I'd be all over one of them. I need more power for 3D software for work and also wanted to game on the road if I needed too. MSI GT72 is where I landed lol. My buddy has had the Surface 3 for a couple years, and now has the 4 and he LOVES them so much. There's no way I could get that thing from him and put a normal style laptop in place of it for him. He would flip out tongue.gif

Oh, I know you weren't. Like you said, you were only stating the differences. tongue.gif

Yeah, you could have bought a nice gaming laptop or ultrabook with SP4. tongue.gif

For me, I had to get SP3 just for school even though I want a newer gaming laptop, but my class is going to filled with math and ****s so typing won't work, lol.

Well crap, apparently BBY doesn't have Surface Pro 3 i3/4GB/128GB in-stock anymore and I forgot MS had to recall of their charger.

Recall their charger?? I wasn't aware of there being an issue? What happened with the chargers? I just like to know as much as possible so it helps me forward info to the next person lol. I know about 4-5 people that all had SP3's and none had charger issues that I heard of.

I wasn't trying to get back into the gaming laptop scene, but now that I did I'm very impressed with how powerful they are and what the new cpus are doing. Mine has the 6820K cpu and I run it at 4ghz. I get 878 points in Cinebench r15, and my 4790k desktop @ 4.8ghz gets 970 points. I can't believe how close in power my laptop cpu is. At 4ghz, it's faster than the 4770k at stick speeds which hits 3.9ghz. Crazy that a laptop cpu is as powerful as a desktop cpu now. Makes me think about I'd I'm going to keep having both, or just go to badass gaming laptops from now on for a few years.
