Glad to see you finally got a good unit!

I'm happy for you guys. It seems to be really difficult to get a good unit.

I just received my second sample, and while it has less backlight bleed than the first one, it's still there and annoying. This time it's on the uppler left. Turning down brightness unfortunately doesn't help either, so I decided to return this one and have ordered two more right away..

Btw. being forced to go back to my 1200p again really sucks. I guess once you've experienced 4k in person, there's no going back.

Upon inspection, the monitor overall looks fantastic. Colors are vibrant and accurate. The low response time and G-Sync really do make gaming buttery smooth. The unit does have some minor IPS glow, but is not as bad as those units that I've seen in this forum thread and even less after I calibrated it using my Spyder5 Elite. There is no backlight bleed at all, which was nice. Unfortunately, there is one dead pixel in the upper right corner. The good thing is that it is almost invisible when using the monitor for web surfing, watching movies/TV, or when gaming. I only found it because I was literally staring at the entire screen from a few inches away to inspect for dead/stuck pixels. The pixel shows as black on any color background, so maybe that's the reason why I barely see it. That and the fact that the pixels are so tiny on the screen definitely helps ;-)

So, I'm going to call Amazon customer service today and see if I can ask for an additional discount off the monitor. The original description stated open-box and that the original packaging had some damage, but said nothing about a dead pixel. I've been a Prime member for over 10 years, so hopefully they will give me an additional credit off the monitor.

Any questions or thoughts? Let me know!

**UPDATE**

I just spoke to Amazon customer service and they gave me an additional $214.98 credit on my Amazon store card for the dead pixel!! WOW. I am definitely going to keep the monitor as the one dead pixel is basically invisible to me. So, total cost for my XB321HK is $801.52 biggrin.gif

You had very good luck with that open box monitor,I ordered a Benq BL3201PH open box from Amazon this April and it had a line of dead pixel across 2/3 of the screen near the top so I had to return it. If I had only one dead pixel like you I would have kept it.

Today I got the third and forth monitors. The third one has little-to-no back light bleed, but one stuck pixel (white) at the center. The screen also looks kinda cloudy? Strange.

With the fourth sample though, I finally seem to have gotten lucky. This one is bleeding no back light at all, and the picture looks very good. Unfortunately, this one has a dead subpixel (black) in the upper right corner, but since I doubt I will get a better sample without cycling through at least 4 more of these - which would be insane - I'll probably keep this one. I'm currently trying, if I can revive the dead pixel by running the applet from jscreenfix.com, but I seem to have no luck.

Applying pressure didn't help either, the pixel seems completely dead. I'm totally torn on what to do? Although it's just in the upper right corner, it still bothers. Also read somewhere, that a dead pixel means that likely the entire panel is of bad quality, and that I might get more dead pixels over time. Is that true?

Update: Decided to stick with this last sample since I really don't notice the dead pixel on the upper right, and the panel is just so frellin glorious drool.gif

After one day of use, I'm in love with this monitor, because reasons

  1. Thad god damn tiny text is still so incredibly sharp at 65cm away; much rooms nerdsmiley.png
  2. Had some eyestrain issues at first, but could resolve them by changing the monitor defaults to (I'm running Gnome btw):
    • Brightness: 14
    • Contrast: 58
    • Color Temp: Cool
    • Power LED: Auto Off (this is a multiverse sent)

and while that's really "cool", it looks great to my eyes (at least)
  3. Dear god I can't go back to 1200p for the third time smile.gif
  4. After making these adjustments, the blacks are very good. I notice very little glow, and the monitor's anti-glare coating seems to be a perfect compromise between clarity and sharpness
  5. These god damn wallpapers are so glorious in 4k, e.g. https://alpha.wallhaven.cc/wallpaper/397902

Pictures to flollow when I get a good camera
Let me know if you have any questions. A quick recap of the odyssey I went through with the four Acer XB321HK samples Amazon sent to me

  1. Back light bleed on the bottom right, large area
  2. Back light bleed on the upper left, large area
  3. Light back light bleed all over the place, clouds all over the place and one stuck stuck pixel in the central area
  4. Perfect back light, no bleed at all but one dead pixel on the upper right. Very little glow

How does this monitor compared to Asus pg27aq or other 4k monitors? I know this is 32" and Asus is 27" is their any other advantage to grab this one over the Asus one? I need a new 4k monitor for gaming just not sure which to get.
with a 27" monitor you almost certainly need scaling (125 percent, or 150 percent) at wich point you could just as well go with a 1440P monitor and get more hertz. If you only want to use it for gaming, I would go with a 144 or a 165 Hz 1440P monitor. 32" is the smallest I would want a 4K monitor to be without using scaling.

On the Asus - due to the high DPI - 1440p will look like on any other 27" 1440p screen. The Acer is slightly newer, has 50cd/m2 more max brightness and a blue light filter. Asus has better customer support. Not sure if the PG27 has better quality control, but if that's not a factor for you, then I'd go with the bigger screen simply because having all that space available is just awesome.
