fx-6300 + r9 270x still viable in 2016?

Hi, do you guys think that the components in the title (CPU is @4.2GHz) will still be viable for gaming in 2016? I'm worried about upgrading because I'd probably end up also having to get a higher wattage PSU or a motherboard with more power phases.

it depends on what would you play, resolution and image quality being used, and how good is the multicore/threading on games

i'm mostly waiting for No Man's Sky to come out and i run most games @ 1440x900 on med-high settings

If you're planning on upgrading, you're better off waiting until Zen. The 270X will handle stuff for now, if you wanted a little bit of a boost, the 960 will use the same power consumption. You might even have room to overclock the 960 if you wanted to grab some extra fps for 1080p. No Man's Sky will take its sweet time.

the r9 270x might be fine at that resolution about the processor depends totally on the game multicore support/scaling

You'll be perfectly fine at that resolution. Your system is still pretty decent.

I'll second that.

The Division system specs just came out and minimum is a FX-6100. Even bulldozer is holding on to relevance in the DX12 era

i would think this card should be able to handle some titles at med setting on 1080.

you can get a decent current GPU that you will still be able to power with your current psu if you really feel the need but i don't see a need at this point

if you've got an upgrade itch, from my point of view an SSD would be more beneficial than a gpu are your resolution.

that being said i don't see the need for any upgrade in this situation

The 960 isn't worth it.

Here are a few benches of my son's FX 8310 (4.5 ghz) + 280x
A 8 core overclocked + 280x overclocked on a CX430M (so your 450 should be ok)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLPR_1sktuLd4o975FMUWqAsCM6JrVEOXB

He runs a 8310 4.4 ghz + HD7850 24/7 and is perfectly happy

I'd get a cheaper/faster 380 instead of the 960
