Why even bother with Windows 10 at this point? - Page 2

One of the largest problems I've ran into is running games only a few years old from my steam library on Windows 10, and they just don't seem to work regardless of how much tinkering I do.

What games are you referring to, and what kind of issues are you having? I actually haven't run into any problems when gaming really.

I've yet to experience that yet though, with the exception of additional types of windows snapping i haven't missed any features of windows 10. In fact it's the opposite, I use Windows 10 and find myself missing features of Window 7, such as working games.

Cortana, if you're into that sort of thing I guess would be a reason. The start menu is pretty nice too. I haven't gone further into the OS yet.

I have noticed a slight drop, but really not so perceptible unless you're really looking for it. Not something I've bothered tracking honestly.

One of the biggest ones has been trying to get GTA 4 working with Windows 10. It continuously asks for the code and my Games for Windows account etc. I tried a few different things before giving up. It's not just me either, as it has caused the ratings on steam to plummit. There were a few others, when I'm home i'll put together a list.

The last thing i need is windows spying on me even more. Disabled cortana immediately.

I don't like it, or the fact that it comes pre installed with 6 ads right out of the box. I think it's ridiculous that there's ads on the computer before you even do anything with it. Maybe i still haven't gotten used to it, but i find browsing for programs a real chore. I find myself going to find the source folder on my C drive more often than i use the start menu. At which point i just make a shortcut in the menu, the same as i would make a shortcut in a folder on my desktop in Windows 7, or as a quick launch.

My next PC will be under Linux, nevermind DX12, i'll play Linux games and i'll get the control of my PC back. Now, I just need to learn how to use Linux and that is more exciting than fighting against MS. Feel a little better now biggrin.gif

Have you noticed any increase in performance for gaming?

I havent noticed a direct effect on gaming from the OS alone, just from going to a z170 board and from an fx4300 to an i7 oc. although early win10 driver issues fried one of my logitec headsets to the point that it was rather unstable. There was also some instability in ff14, but i think my first install of win10 was just plain bad

why w10 sucks and i wont use it. its not geared for people with computers its geared for people with things. you know, things. like, a little square thing they walk around with shining in their faces, tapping on their screens like monkeys. thats what that os is geared for. it wont work good on computers and micro is trying to destroy the computer anyway as they hate it since it runs on binary and not stupid like the mobile phone, tablet and screw you with it, laptop industry. at least they dont have it strangled, and the only reason these people use these other things is cause their so addicted to porno they cant leave the house. end

To be fair, I've experienced this on Win7. I don't blame Win10, I blame GFWL (Games for Windows Live).

I do the saaaame thing bro. Instead of clicking start I always click the little Folder shortcut on the taskbar now.

The start menu options take you into Smartscreen now. Where typing in "Control Panel" in the search is the only way to take you back to the classic settings (these are both separate I must add). I don't like having 2 sets of options for everything. I don't need apps controlling my wifi network and my security...
