[PCWorld]Integrated CPU graphics are catching up with discrete graphics cards, says Intel - Page 2

Seems about right. Most discrete gpus being sold are low/mid range, if I was in the market to build a non (3d) gaming machine I would be hard pressed to find a reason to add a discrete gpu. There are a lot of games that don't require much in terms of GPU power to run, probably more of these games than there are games that require powerful discrete gpu's.

Does my R9 270X fall under the 80% bracket? If so i guess I'm due for an upgrade, come on pascal or polaris I need a card for under$200 that can take on intel's apu.

actually id wager its much faster than just x4.5 and more likely 10 - 15 x as fast in certain scenarios if not more.

But Intel, I don't want more iGPU in my ---> CPU <---. I want more CPU in my CPU. Can we work on that instead? tongue.gif

Hell no. The OP's GTX 750 ti doesn't fall under the bracket.

If an IGPU really could keep up with even the GTX 950 (little more powerful then HD7850) then I'd say it would be a very viable option. That would be comparative to the hardware at the time of course. So, whatever fills the 950 range of GPU at the time.

On that day I would have no problems suggesting a friend build a gaming rig running purely off of an IGPU. Hell, I'd even consider making myself one to toss in the living room.

But that will change this year. It is the loong time on 28nm that are the reason.

Software still needs to catch up to hardware. Imagine if most dx12 titles could pull multi-brand gpu feature off or at least put igpus to work for some tasks. Then intel could have more say in the gfx area. As a gamer, you'd be inclined to buy the better cpu with better igpu. Then again, pure cpus could extinct in a few years.

The title and the article mix things up a little so it gets confusing.

In my opinion :
- Catching up? Yes. Since there was pretty much nothing worth talking about 6 or 7 years ago in the iGPU department.

- Outperforming 80% of discrete graphics cards? Eh. Depends. The most balls to the wall iGPU Intel has vs the average discrete graphics card? Maybe.

As for another point made in the article:
Good enough for gaming. Casual gamers? Yes. Mainstream gamers? No, not yet anyway.
