glitching/high fps then sudden drop to low fps (5-6fps) SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ive randomly started getting glitching when playing games it'll run fine then just completely un playable every 20-30 seconds. also having driver display problems. so I tried different drivers, still the same, installed games on different hdd's and ssd's and reinstalled windows but still the same. changed the ram too but nope, still the same. I was using a msi 465 GTX so changed cards to 2 other 465 GTX's but still same. oh also bought an evga 500w psu at first as thought it might of been low amps on 12v rail but nope. so changed card again to ATI HD6970 2gb but nope. which left cpu. was using a Q6700 so bought a Q9400 which is a hell of a lot better but it started doing it again after 20 mins of play (arma 2 dayz mod) from 55fps-10fps so not as bad with new cpu. now the motherboard Isnt that old I only bought it 4 months back. what is going on ive tried allsorts and hate not being able to play my fav game. it seems ok on slightly less graphic hungry games like deadliest catch and also seems ok on a smaller tv/monitor. my tv is 42" led 1080p. reduced it 720p and 1080i but nope. I thought the cpu would of sorted it but naa. typical. someone help please frown.gif

Q9400 quad core 2.66ghz
4gb crucial ballistix elite with 2gb Kingston ddr3 (different ram might not help I know but tried alone but nope)
128gb scan disk ultra read ssd
500gb WD HDD
win 10 pro 64bit
evga 500w psu
ATI XFX 6970 2gb GDDR5
MSI G41M-P33 Combo

What PSU did you have before?

As for the EVGA
Why you should not buy an EVGA 400-600 and 500B-600B

some shocking 70w arctic thing. 12+ was only 24A so that was first on list to change. oh your joking? ***!! I thought it would be a good little psu for bog standard gaming rig with single graphics card. I had a corsair cx430 a while back and ran flawless no matter what. ive had evga boards that always went wrong evga cards that don't work so was sceptical bout buying this one. wish id gone gut instinct and stuck with corsair now.

thanks for the tip. Il try use a mates psu and try that.

The EVGA is not junk but they are very cheap for a reason.
But sory they dont belong in a gaming rig if this was a office or web browsing machine it would have been fine.

Last EVGA does not make the PSU´s they sell nor does Corsair so you are not getting an EVGA or Corsair made PSU.
The brand is irrelevant and have nothing to do with quality of any kind, 80 plus is the same thing.

well what ever I have to do with evga seems to be junk or never work. never had problems of any sense with corsair so will stick with them after this. I never went for brand I went for the specs of what would and should power a low end gaming setup. pretty bad in my mind. ive got a crummy little amd am3 dual core I might set it up on that see what happens. the q9400 is less watts than the 6700 so another reason I swapped chips.

The Corsair CX is not better in any way if you are thinking about one of those, in fact its worse in some ways.
Why you should not buy a Corsair CX

If you need a really cheap PSU that is better then average there is the XFX TS bronze which is based on the Seasonic S12IIB.
The Corsair CS are also much better then the CX and those dont cost a fortune.

Arma games are quite dependent on IPC/ST performance upgrading to an i5 Haswell or Skylake would improve the performance but still some scripts will be a proble. In game

i nearly bought an sv650 and a cs550 i think it was, but thought it maybe overkill for what i want. think i will be getting one next though. although i was playing arma dayz mod lastnight and it ran fine at around 50+ fps so confused but glad about that. ive got a government and 2 cars to fund so at the mo il leave it as it is as the wife said she'll buy me a psu i need next week. so not all too bad now. i did have an i5 790 i think it was with the same components and that ran sweet and theyre great budget intel quad. thanks guys

The Corsair VS is even worse then the Corsair CX and maybe even the EVGA you have now
Why you should not buy a Corsair VS / Thermaltake SMART SE

So if you want to buy a new PSU the CS is as low as you should go.

yeh sorry I meant VS. ive been looking at a new cpu and board as i have an i5 760 spare but the boards are limited and read somewhere on feedback, that one of the boards wasn't compatible with SSD's. would that be the case in my problem?? as its socket 775 its an old setup. I have a spare 500gb HDD I might install windows and games and try it. tried 3 PSU's now. on the look out for a board that takes 1156/H2 chip. not many about unless I go overseas to US or china.
