Help! SSD is "offline"

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I had a RAID 0 set up with two 128GB Toshiba SSD's (cheap and 1GB/s)

I went to reinstall windows today, and as usual it was doing the "can't install to this disk" for every disk. I install windows onto my seperate 240GB SSD. I tried something that worked on my last motherboard (setting it to AHCI in the bios) and it worked, and let me install windows. After I turned it back to RAID the raid boot up menu was showing me RAID 0 failed.

I figured heck, and would deal with it. I guess I lost my data.... I deleted the raid 0 array and then created a new one.

After doing the above it was giving me the error "initialize disk" "can't format disk" "assign this drive a letter". I tried all of those and it will still not format the disk. I have a hard time believing switching to AHCI would kill one of my toshibas, right?...

Anyways, I deleted the raid array again, and would see if one of the drives wasn't working. Behold, I was getting the same errors with drive #2. It shows, it will show in windows, but will not let me format it. I can assign it a letter and activate it, but cannot partition it.

Can anyone offer some insight? I want to be able to install steam back onto my array smile.gif

When you make a raid array with ssds the controller will write a sort of Metadata to each disc and it will be recognized as part of an array even on a different Intel controller even from another generation. When you are done with the raid you should simply undo the array in the bios first, reboot, then do whatever you want with it. You can try to install Linux on each of them and the n try again to form the raid. You will have to initialize the array anyway and that should delete any remaining data on the drives. You could also try a bios reset and retry to form the raid again.
