I have yet to meet a game that has that ability. I play GTAV, MGSV, NBA2K16, CIV 5, BF4, All the batmans, Tomb Raider, DOTA2 and HL2. Not one of these games even come close to taxing my system even at 1440p let alone 4k. GTAV is the only game that can kill it at 4k with msaa. And when that happens, nothing is going to fix 20fps.

Well, relatively speaking a faster CPU doesnt really help all that much in the vast majority of games. But the fact is faster RAM can help in some situations as the guys have linked here earlier, which are pretty much the same situations that a faster CPU would help I believe.

And when you say much more expensive you're talking a matter of 15 or 20 between 2400 and 3200. Probably less if you caught a sale. If you were talking about a hundred and the difference between faster RAM and a faster GPU for the price it would be a slightly different story.

edit: Given the cost of upgrading from 2400 to 3200 isn't so high, if reselling the 2400 ram, I think it'd make a good upgrade. I'd go for it if I was on DDR4. It's kinda like upgrading from Haswell to Skylake sometimes. Some people might not see a difference. It's better performance anyhow.

Yes this is exactly what I'm doing. After I sell the Ripjaws 4 2133 the cost is minimal. Worth the 2-20 fps (depending on the game) I'll gain.

Framerate isn't everything. You can't just stare at your fps counter and say that just because your fps doesn't change with faster memory that it doesn't make any difference. Arkham knight at 1440p averages 75 fps with 55 minimum according to fraps on my system but it is still a stuttery mess to play. The witcher 3 averages less than 60 fps with dips in the high 40's and yet gameplay looks smoother. This is why some sites have started including frametime graphs in their data. If one frame stays on screen for half a second and then the second half displays 59 frames, it will still show 60fps but you will have noticeable stutter that may not show up in tests that just measure fps. I have done some testing personally using DDR3 memory, and even with an overclocked 4790k and a 980TI, I do get less dramatic fluctuations in frametimes and in some cases a higher minimum fps. The difference isn't much, but it is noticeable going from 1600 to 2133, even with games that are not CPU dependent. From what I have seen, there is an even bigger difference with DDR4.

If you are building on a lower budget, CPU and GPU are probably still much more important and it might make sense to go for cheaper memory if you can use the extra money towards those components, but if you are putting over $1500 into a high end system, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20 on faster memory. OP might not see a huge difference, but if he can sell his old memory and upgrade for cheap then it might be worth it to him. Linking a 3 year old video that doesn't do proper testing to begin with isn't a good argument that faster memory has no benefit.

What is wrong with people faster memory is nothing new and provided it is the limiting factor faster is better. Why the debate? It is fact.

Would i recommend high speed memory to a normal consumer NO not unless i was going to set it up for them. Technically even with xmp profiles it is still overclocking. And can cause system instability issues if not tested and tweaked properly.

Also keep in mind where you are posting. You are not talking to people who are just normal consumers here, you are talking to people who like pushing the limits and spending time tweaking to get the most they can out of there system.

Either start posting some graphs or something, or just keep quiet. It's one thing to disagree, but there has been evidence posted to refute your claims and you just seem to ignore it and continue posting "There is zero performance gain..."...when it's proven multiple times that there is. Maybe you don't believe the gain is worth it, because it's not a huge jump, but that's not what you are saying...you just keep repeating that you are right, and everyone else is wrong...that there is no gain with faster RAM.

Sorry to beat the dead horse again. Anyone know what benchmark I can use to determine if RAM speeds do matter? I recently got a decent job and bought A LOT of hardware I can test with. Will do a bunch of testing before I sell most of it.

Use AIDA64 tools cache and memory benchmark . . . . the read write copy higher numbers count and latency the lower the better, are of what are most important
