Every 'host server' I know of has rules and regs (ie ToS) their users have to follow. Things like mass migration of data during certain time frames or without prior notification are examples. Some even have limitations on content site has to agree to conform to. It's all in the 'legalese' agreement between site and host server. wink.gif

A real world example would be you getting pulled over and ticketed for talking on your phone while driving, and you telling the officer you didn't know it was against the law in that state. You'll still get the ticket because you still broke the rules. But let's not go too far down that rabbit hole, this isn't the thread for that.
the inaccuracy is the difference between what we sign and subsequent changes. I was not disagreeing with what is signed when joining forum. Read it or not (most don't because is wading though legalese) it is what s is and we agree to it. Rule changes after signing the original are part of the rules we agreed to .. although there is probably something in the original agreement saying we agree to any changes made in the rules. The reality is it doesn't matter what we sign, because the 'forum' only requires we sign. 'Forum' does not sign an greement with us giving us any 'rights' or 'guarantees' of what they will or will not do.

The end result if if 'forum' wants to change it's rules to not allow post editing, they can. Nothing we can do about it.thumb.gif
Our only real recourse is to leave if we don't like it. biggrin.gif

But yes, we have fallen into the rabbit hole. thumb.gif

OCN is a community forum. When you make a post or topic it becomes a part of a thread that other people are contributing to, and just deleting your posts out can effect other users content as well. Many threads wouldn't make sense with the main post gone, for example. To further that, if you post some good information, someone else may not post it because its already there.

I think it is a good policy. It may sound strange in a tech forum where stuff moves so quick... but sometimes you need to find out how to fix a bug in an old game, or have a problem with a windows XP computer at work.

I agree. Based on that, the 1 year point may be allowing too much time for users to edit / delete.

Hadn't thought much about the really old posts, but 3-5 year old info is often what I need. Most of my equipment is older. I rarely by newly released components .. in fact most are bout used. For instance right now I'm looking to upgrade my GTX 580 to something 2-3 years old and have been looking at a lot of data, testing and posts from that era. VGAs like GTX 680, 770 & 780; R9 285 & 290x; HD7970 7 7990, etc. All are a couple three years old. thumb.gif
While I'm using Win 7 on 2 systems, I still have XP on 3 others and do support on a bunch of old XP systems. The best source of info for XP is older tech threads. thumb.gif

The one year limit is just so they don't have to go back and restore more then 1 year of posts. Chunky_Chimp mentioned restoring ~100 posts from someone, and they were just going from latest post on down.

Well this is a pain. Finally find some time to update the OP in my 32m efficiency thread only to discover I can't. Awesome job as always overclock.net.
