man oh man, someone had to go and poke the bubble about AMD Zen again. People were crunching numbers the last time AMD said Zen would be 40% faster than excavator. Of course those numbers could never really be looked at to because even excavator has yet to be seen in the desktop market. AMD did note that the 40% was independent of process node, so that is what we are probably seeing. AMD is likely playing with some engineering samples now. Honestly if AMD is getting better results than they planned for, now would probably be a perfect time to slip out a benchmark or two to hype the market. Perhaps they could do it when they are talking about Polaris. Show a benchmark running on a AMD Zen system something simple like 3dmark firestrike.

Maybe that is too much to ask for haha. I've had that upgrade itch since skylake came out. I almost bought a Skylake I7, but the prices got jacked sky high around the holidays, so just been waiting for the time being. I'd really like to be able to consider an AMD option for my next upgrade, but I'm not gonna wait around.

Well AMD has until the prices on skylake go back to normal. After that I'm just upgrading, haha. Not that me being one person is going to change their release schedule. If they release some sort of benchmark and encouraged me to wait for Zen I'd probably do that

This isn't going to be hard to do, a 1090T at 3.6 had 30% more IPC than a 8350 at 3.6. When your prior 6 core product outruns your newer "8 core" product, you've got some major issues.

If Zen wouln't be out until Q4, then Intel has time to iron out its 14 nm node, and Samsung technology will not be that massive advantage. I guess no Intels price drops.

Now would be far too early, not to mention they will most likely gain several percent over the next four to six months optimising various aspects. The actual performance level will only be clear when the very late stage engineering samples get out there. While a 45% improvement over 40% doesn't seem much it pretty much covers one generation leap in newer Intel's processors (excluding Haswell). The best timing would be some weeks or a month before actual retail availability so that people on the edge of buying a new system might wait without making people frustrated over the wait and downplaying the performance.

40% higher IPC is a bit meaningless either way, SR and EX are far better than PD in specific tasks while actually having a slight regression in others. You could pick five FPU and one integer heavy benchmark to make that difference appear larger than it, is or choose five integer and one FPU heavy one to make it the other way around.

Running straight out benchmarks this early would also be bad, it's generally better not to reveal your hand to competition until you have to. The GPUs most likely have far more work to be done on the software side.

Q4 probably.. but delay can happen.
I just hope that AM4 will have plenty of ITX offers.

I am with you, we must support AMD, otherwise Intel will /is asking absurd prices for Quad core CPU´s.

I see that your FX is overclocked, my FX-8350 is clocked at 4.923Mhz...

These CPU´s at 4.9/5.1Ghz range have a very decent performance in games, even old engines.

New modern 4T~8T game engines really run great in my system. Like Crysis3, BF4 or Wolfeinstein Old Blood.

All games i have run great in my ageing R9 280X O.C 3GB (1.100/1500).

Even in old game engines that i still use sometimes, aka Crysis 1/Warhead, GTR2, RFactor GPU load is always near or at 100% usage.

I really like this FX chip. Decent chip to me.

See ya.

Yes phenom ii had better ipc, however thats why the fx chips where clocked higher
