That's a really awesome concept thumb.gif

Of course, most of the time when CPU pins are bent it is when thermal paste causes the heatsink to adhere to the CPU beyond the socket's ability to retain the CPU. Some type of hold-down mechanism for the CPU would probably resolve most of the issues.

The second most common way the CPU pins get bent is simply by dropping the CPU. But a razor blade and some patience always recovers the CPU (I have yet to not recover one*).

* One CPU had four pins break off completely (an Athlon II X3). I looked up the pin layout and discovered that two were reserve pins, one was voltage, and the other did not have a decipherable description. I straightened out the remaining pins and tried without the missing pins - all was well!

I think the concern here is that these chips aren't going to scale up too well with more voltage. If the boost in IPC is accurate I'm hoping I can get one to 4.4-4.6 under water, but I'm guessing that's going to be an extreme OC for these.

Either way my next CPU is going to be an 8 core.. 5960x meets my requirements perfectly in every department but price. Sadly I feel pretty confident that level of performance is still going to cost $1000 one year from now sad-smiley-002.gif.

Why 8 core. Six core is more then enough and it is for 400$.
Look some say that (while benching ZEN) ZEN is haswell like performance, source is unknown.

I will probably buy ZEN or ZEN+.

8 core personal preference for me (8c/16t), either that or I'll switch to Xeons. This is for heavily threaded loads (work machines), not for one of my gaming rigs. I'm perfectly happy with the 4790k for gaming. 5820k is ok but I'd like the extra 4 threads because why not thumb.gif

If Zen provides haswell 'like' performance, that means an 8 core that can handle an OC wouldn't be far off from the 5960x. Competition will then net me a cheaper 8 core (hopefully, I'd like to do this by 2017).

TheStilt and some other people said that ZEN will be smaller and wont OC as good as skylake. They have collected data from the patch and made a core which shows 10 pipelines for ZEN core.

Yes there are few predictions, but it might be 90% true.
So FPU performance should be great, but on AVX/2 instructions might lag behind Haswell.

Thestilt ran numbers based on the specs of ipc that amd projects, there has been no benching @The Stilt please clarify

AMD tested ZEN = “Met All Expectation” and “Significant Bottlenecks” Found.
Rumor from these tests was that ZEN haswell like performance. RUMOR, unknown source.

This was rumor from AMD labs. But still it could be easy lie.

What? When did he say that? You need to actually provide the direct quote if you go and say "so and so said this"
I am actually pretty sure you typed a "4" when you meant to type a "3" there.
