the reason why Intel is doing this is to ensure that their own products are not competing with each other. why create competition when you are the top dog with no competition. it is as simple as that.. I am hoping Zen matches or comes within 5% of kaby with additional cores to throw intel off kilter.. however I just don't see it happening and like I said see the same thing now just a lower gap like 10-15%

Explain the chipset though? Why does there have to be two different types? With an AMD it's typically one variation of chipset with all the variables. To me it seems to be a way to separate the consumers from the enthusiasts to treat all individuals who build a computer either as inferior costumers or superior depending on their selection in board. What's the deal with the Skylake overclocking too? You've got to calibrate like 12 different things, they should be handing out college diplomas with that much over complication.

Again its to separate the scale and make a profit at every price point. The average joe is not going to be like hey this letter is different whats wrong with it, they just see price tag.. where with amd you see the lower number being a lower capability.. and when you are ralking about over 150 dollar boards for middle ground products, its best to make it look more elite even in the name.

Not saying i agree with the tactics, but one thing intel has down is marketing

So 40% increase would make a 2.3ghz Zen faster than a 4.4ghz Kaveri.

Getting a Zen to 4.6ghz would make it twice as fast as a Kaveri at 4.4ghz.

If things scaled on a 1:1 ratio.
No the Carrizo is not as 4.4 Ghz kaveri. I have both CPUs. Sometimes is better Carrizo a little, superpi is not typical point. In Cinebench r15 is worse, wprime is not good much also much.

I want a CPU-Z bench just to compare.

At 3.4GHz Carrizo scores 1040 in ST and 3495 in MT (CPU-Z 1.75).

If zen turns out to be pretty good in performance as well as power consumption...6-8 core with great overclocking...I might make the jump. The price to skylake it quite steep and I'd imagine amd is going to do everything in their power to price zen at a point where it's affordable and attractive to steal Intel's market share..

I believe a significant performance margin is lost to the cTDP features. Plus that's pretty good on a laptop.

Don't expect anything great out of Kaby Lake. It's just going to be a refresh of Skylake, with the usual 100 MHz clock bumps. The only interesting thing it might debut is the 576-ALU Iris Pro 580 in an LGA1151 processor.

Well that says a lot about the early Core i7s, doesn't it...

It seems like Excavator can match Steamroller performance, with 200 MHz taken off the core clock. Steamroller could match Piledriver performance with twice that taken off.
