Yes and no...
In 2015 only 2 games came out with excellent PC optimizations - GTA V and Witcher 3, even though PC platform was not the priority for either of those games. The rest of games were ported from Consoles without much optimization. Our hardware, even GTX 970/980, is capable of a lot more than it provides us in most games today. Take a look at some of the Enhanced Editions of games, like Shadow Warrior that received a DirectX 11 patch and ended up running some 50% faster with higher quality settings than the original release. Or take a look at Unity 4 to Unity 5 ports, where visuals were greatly improved and yet performance increased instead of decreasing. The same goes for Unreal 3.5/4.0 to Unreal 4.6 ports, like The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. So Devs are not really pushing those boundaries, at least not after a good year of support and patching and that's if developers decide to support their game for that long. One single guy develops a Post-Processing visual and performance-increasing wrapper, ENB, and manages to increase vanilla game's framerate by some 20-30% alone. Its ONE GUY who manages to push graphics and performance further than those games' developers! If that isn't evidence of developers' piss-poor optimizations, then I don't know what is. Developers do not do their best. They do just enough to keep people happy and get paid because they know we're going to put up with it. We may yell "BS!" or whatever else, but in the end we suck it up without starting a revolution because it isn't worth it.

Agreed, GTA with the extra draw distance setting is about as optimal as Assassin's Creed III. Witcher III did play well before patch 1.0.7. Now it's not so great.

Umm, Metal Gear Solid V was a perfectly optimized game. I woul even go as far as saying that game was IMO the BESt optimized game of 2015. If there was a category for that, i would vote for MGSV if you guys want to talk about optimizations of 2015.

My main problem is that it does not scale well with settings. Going from Low to Ultra with HW its 44 fps to 28 fps @ 4K with single GPU. CFX is broken and nobody seems to care. I want to play this game so god dam much but after seeing how good it look at 4K I just cant fathom to play it on lower resolutions.

Aside from the complete fiasco about the downgrade to suit the XB1 crowd, The Witcher 3 was well known to run sub 30 FPS on most cards upon release. Even Nvidia cards were struggling to get 60fps @ 1080p. It later got patched and I guess was better but it was by no means a "Well optimised game" from the get-go. Whereas GTA V was nigh on 'perfect' out of the gate on PC. If anything, dispite the content in-game, I would say "Mad Max" was pretty well optimised. Hell I can run that game with all eye-candy on my lil 5970 2GB!

I don't see much in the way of news here; "Nvidia recommends their high-end card for latest game coming out soon" .. sure they do. What company wouldn't? Especially seeing as NV would push the 900 series now, and then abandoning it in the next few months when the next-gen cards come out. Sadly like they did with the 7xx series users during The Witcher 3 patches, pee'd a few of them off!

On the topic of TR2013, wasn't the whole TressFX problem to do with it being open-source, just Nvidia cards didn't have the compute power back then to handle the calculations? I recall it was something that was lacking, even upto the Titan range back then. We had no problem day one on my partners 7970 6GB.

All I need here is a good sli support. Don't care about AA so my 780sli should push 60fps at least at 1440p.
Also very excited to see Baba Yaga dlc for it. Was really afraid of that character at childhood:)
