[EuroGamer] Hands-on with Ark: Survival Evolved on Xbox One - Page 3

I'll admit it had been quite some time since I played it, and I found them pretty bad.maybe they have improved it since last I tried it. I played on my gtx980 and at the settings I had to keep 60ish fps, I wasn't impressed.

I will agree I don't think the survival/ scavaging genre is for me. It takes a lot of time, and that's short I'm short on.

The game is very unoptimized for sure.

That being said I have it on PC and XBOX.... and we bought a second xbox just to host a dedicated server. I havent been this hooked on a game since minecraft.

In the survival genre (day-z, rust, etc) this is the best one I have played. At the end of the day the graphics just don't matter in this one.

Been playing the game for a couple of months now on PC and at first was a little taken back by how it wasn't optimized but the last few patches have made a hell of a lot of difference in the game play. If you have friends to play with the game is alot of fun.

I played it a few months ago, had to turn all the settings down on my 4790k / 980ti combo for it to be playable, but the game itself is fun thats for sure.

In response to someone who said that adding more dinosaurs to the game wont make more players if players are unable to play the game.

I love how they're really clear with the community and talk with them, it's awesome!
It's just a shame that optimization isn't much of a focus right now. in the game development stage optimization is often left till last, but I feel with a game of this caliber it would be nice to have just some slight optimization work done a few weeks or months before the final 3 months of development, it's kind of a pain to be apart of the testing for this game in it's early access when it has some serious performance issues.

I'm sure it's going to turn out to be an amazing game! The gameplay is superb, they're really focusing on alot of awesome things with this game!

They've been really involved with us ever since it was released. We'd sumbit bug reports and within hours there was a new patch fixing it. thumb.gif I just hope they really do tackle the optimization issue as it's the reason I won't play anymore. It just runs too bad.

Been playing this @ 1440p on high settings @ 25 - 35 fps on a 760gtx 2gb model smile.gif 30fps doesn't feel too bad on some engines ( just slower but no tearing ) its actually alright because of the kind of game it is. Also, i didn't expect more from 760 @ 75% more pixels than 1080p.

its very playable and fun.

on Linux.

I think the game looks great but like how everyone else speaks, it's terribly optimized. It looks pretty good on the xbone as compared to the pc in the video. Do you guys think that the game could've been smoother if they used cryengine instead? I've always been a big fan of that engine.

It would not make a difference, both CryEngine and Unreal Engine 4 are capable of very great things, the developers just are terrible at optimising the content before adding it in.

Yes, but the PC game definitely has a bit more 'bling' than the video shows.

Has CryEngine been employed at this scale before?

Funny, when I play this game on my main rig, I get terrible framerates no matter what graphics settings i use. I can move the res from my native all the way down to 1024x768, no real difference.

I've long stopped playing this and am waiting for them to optimize it.
