I am sure their search function needs help, Microsoft hasn't ever been king in that arena, but to complain that exceptionally generic search words don't return YOUR result? Come on now.

Did you read the part where after writing "financial planner" it doesn't show up either? It's literally the next sentence, interesting that you failed to mention it.

Also, did you miss where you have to write the name exactly as it is for it to come up? Or how when you write one of the words ("retirement") contained in the keyword description specifically sent to the Store it also doesn't come up?

Anyway, even when you write the word "planner" it should show up... eventually... somewhere down the list. Not showing up at all is completely inexcusable even for the most crappy search engine.

They also mention that they have the app in other stores and it comes up just fine.

There is a multi-quote function, might want to look into that.

As for the issue; I didn't ignore anything. The guy is searching generic terms, and is upset he isn't an immediate returned result. If you read what I said, instead of spamming the forum, you would also see where I acknowledged Microsoft has an issue with their search and need to fix it.

The article is a hit piece and the only thing backing it is a few semi-weighted complaints based off search results on a few products.

This just in!! Microsoft search isn't the greatest! Welcome to 1999.

EDIT:

To further clarify, in the event it wasn't already, this isn't so much a Windows 10 issue as a Microsoft sucks at search. Anyone who has spent any time dealing with SEO and Microsoft already knows this.

As another user mentioned, Bing was piggybacking of Google for a long while.

Thank you for reminding me, I'm fully aware. I'm also fully aware that it's reasonable to make a new post with a new quote and a new answer when it's been more than 10 minutes between them, so that people don't miss it.

As to the issue, you blatantly ignored the problem by omitting crucial information from that post in order to make a false argument that tries to excuse Microsoft.

He "isn't an immediate returned result", he's not getting a result at all, immediate or not, unless he searches for the exact name of the app. Also, the Store allows for them to submit keywords along with the app and they don't work, it's a big problem. Discoverability is the first problem in any store, electronic or physical.

cause I am too lazy to read are they putting in tags for "Financial planner" then tags in "panner" and "financial" ... if all they are doing is "Financial Planner" then that is an error on how the tags are associated as well as bad on the developer for not being smart enough to use simple tags... catch my drift?

Yes.

The description has the words "planner", "Financial Planner" and most term one would associate with an app whose sole purpose is to provide financial planning.
Quote:
I know "retirement" is a keyword and is also in our description but if I search with retirement our app does not show up.

The base issue is that it doesn't show up at all. Making less than ideal keyword associations - which is not the case - would at worst lead to a bottom of the list result, not no results at all.

Just today I was looking for the Windows Pro upgrade on their 10 store and after I searched and clicked enter the store just shut down. Keeps happening, no idea why.

What it amounts to is a handful of people complaining that their generic tags aren't working in their favor. Which should shock no one, as Microsoft suuuuucks with search.

What ? AHahahah MS shouldn't try being sarcastic. Search has its own mind according to MS, it became self aware biggrin.gif

They don't even try to come up with a better excuse. I can understand having to rely on MS against one's own will, you can't really avoid it. But how can anyone with more than two neurons TRUST anything Microsoft says, that is beyond me.

With that said, yes, you got to publish your app wherever you can I guess. It's impossible to be surprised with anything shady about any app store or Microsoft, unfortunately.

Won't use a walled garden app store, especially an M$ one. Curious to see how many people are actually using it.

I use "application" and "program" interchangeably but I never use "app" even for smartphone applications. I'm too trend-averse. tongue.gif I can see the logic behind the abbreviation though, disregarding the trendiness. It's a whole lot quicker to say than "application." According to Wikipedia all three are shorthand for "application program" anyway.
