Guys, watch the tone of your writing.

You realize people lie, right? You are making this too complicated........for instance: the economic effect of DRM development alone would make your argument incorrect.

Also, are you saying that people who buy the game would not recommend it? So I don't understand how people download it for free but recommend it to someone who buys it somehow offsets the fact that they wouldn't buy it? The logic is flawed.

Annnnyway back to my original point........I am interested to see how this plays out because uncrackable DRM is the only way to actually learn which of us is correct thumb.gif

Posted the same thing in the other thread.. I just hope that this kills that "piracy kills PC sales" excuse devs constantly resort to. And maybe, just maybe, we'll get a decent game or two.

However, that means you didn't have another $60 to freely spend it on a game.

It also depends on whether you think the game is actually worth that much. Witcher 3 is a PERFECT example. The game was DRM-free and it was so good that it really felt wrong to pirate it and a ton of would-be-pirates ended up buying it instead of pirating it or pirating it and then buying it. I bought 2 copies just to support the developers. I will NOT support developers who use Denuvo.

One way or another, Denuvo will be beaten.

You know they say Piracy is a crime but is say not buying Witcher 3 is the real crime. I bought everything Witcher 3 has to offer even though from a technical side of things Witcher 3 does not like my system.

Denuvo's Anti-Tamper appears to be winning. However you look at it, Denuvo has - as director of marketing and sales Thomas Goebls tells me - "achieved good crack-free windows on every title we've protected". And more importantly, developers and publishers are noticing.

"Due to our recent success in the past two years, some publishers are even considering releasing console-only titles for the PC platform," he said.
Finally, tide turns in war with PC game crackers

But we don't have any data for that, maybe yes, maybe no. I am not sure I want the money I spend on games to go do DRM development instead of game development though. wink.gif

Of course people who bought the game also recommend it. The hypothesis is that the person who downloaded it for free often would never have bought it so would never have mentioned it to anyone. One person with a free copy might even generate more than one sale, it is hard data to track but this is why companies often give away free product. Word of mouth does generate a lot of sales and giving away free product to generate word of mouth is quite common in many industries. You need data to say if the lost sales due to piracy out number the increased sales due to more word of mouth; this is probably title dependant too, just to make it more complicated. biggrin.gif

There are other ways to research the topic but if Denuvo really does turn out to be uncrackable it will add useful data if anyone tries to collect it. smile.gif

Does this DRM method still cause performance issues as reported when it was first introduced?

But for this argument to be valid you would have to demonstrate that the pirates recommendations would result in at least 2 sales to offset DRM cost. I find that highly unlikely because if you recommended a game that means you would have bought it if you could not have pirated it. Also you can't recommend a game that you haven't played so uncrackable DRM would result in more sales for sure.

I see the logic in your argument but I will stop short of calling it proven science.........it's a theory that can be backed up with data.......but it's not the only theory that can be backed with data.

Too much LOL here.

1-3 days free demo: Alien Colonial Marines
Let's play videos: Games running on TitanX SLis
Reviews: OMG OMG GOTY GOTY 11/10 IGN

Rule#1 : Pirates DON'T buy games. They are dead customers since day 1. They download the game, play it couple of hours, then delete it. They are not interested to know what developer did, game's lore, background. They don't do critics regarding to game. They play it, that's it.

Anyone who respects the core, the lore and developer itself buys the game, even pre-orders. Hint: That's why a genius actually invented pre-orders.

Rule#2: If you think distributors are actually caring the piracy, ou are sadly mistaken. They don't care about it. IF it was the case, you would have games like 90 bucks due to the loss of profit. Do you have it ? No. The only thing you have is DLs and premiums which are not even remotely related to the piracy.

Rule#3: If you are buying a game thanks to youtube channel x, good luck.

Now, I am NOT supporting any piracy here. However, I know bunch of people from various countries who pirated game X, loved it and decided to grab it some time later (not and in sale). Piracy has that effect too. It can make a dead customer a customer for your game, because playing the game itself on your system is nothing to compare some youtube channel or purchased sites like IGN.

Don't spend your money on protection, spend your money on making a BETTER game instead. If you make a good game, people will buy it (Witcher 3). I don't like DRM because: A) It's a malware, B) It means less money for game development, C) It's a cheap way to make medicore games a shove it down to our throats.

Don't get me wrong, this industry is corrupted and is making me sick. I don't know why I game anymore. I am sad to see what this hobby has become. It seems the piracy is the only thing which shows a middle finger to greedy *insert angry word here* who considers his fanbase, its consumers as a cow they can milk.

If we need an antagonist against the antagonist, then so be it.

What even assumes that a pirate would even consider to buy the game to begin with? You can't match profit loss with piracy. Piracy only counts as a loss if piracy exceeds a third of the total sales in the area. There is too much transactional noise to justify the loss of profit.
