Logitech Unifying Dongle - and many computers

Thread Starter
This is a question I am almost too embarrassed to ask, but what the hey ...

I have 6 computers in close proximity to each other (huge u-shaped work table) and I was wondering how the heck does a Logitech Unifying Dongle know which mouse and keyboard to "bond with".

Yep, I said it was a silly question, and I try not to disappoint. wink.gif

My guess every device has it's HWID, thus donger dongle and it's software knows who's transmitting what.

Would Synergy do this too?

http://synergy-project.org/

I used Synergy for a bit but then I got scared I was gonna add a delay to my mouse on my main machine by having it installed. IDK if anyone has any experience with it.

Scared? You're not losing anything here if you already have it. Just try and look if it really does add perceivable delay and that's it.

They don't switch around, the mouse or keyboard will only connect to the dongle that they are paired with,

Makes perfectly good sense. I have one of those most irritating minds that wants to know "how". I doubt the dongle is clever enough, though it might be, to read the MAC address of the mouse and keyboard.

But does that mean all computers should be shut down, especially the ones with dongles not mated, while the mating process to a single dongle and mouse/keyboard is occurring?

..............

Also, will I be SOL if I change the OS from Windows to Linux?

No, once you go trough the pairing process, you will understand how everything works,
