Alright, out of the pan and into the fire. How do I setup shared drives between Windows7 (HTPC in the LR) and this system using Linux (Gaming cum streaming system in my bedroom) to watch movies / stream MP3's ? I already have homegroup stup, but that only works with win7 to win7.

I got XCOM from GOG. I extracted it to desktop and it mentions a file XCOM.sh, but when I double click it, nothing comes up. I have changed its rwx permissions, and when I try using
Code:
sudo ./XCOM.sh
it gives
Code:
/home/huzzug/Desktop/XCOM/bin/XCOM: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL2_image-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I searched the net, but didn't come across how to get rid of it. I'm not sure if this is due to the libraries not being correct or if this is another issue.

Linux is notorious for not installing wifi drivers. Plug it into an ethernet connection, find your "Other drivers" or some such, see if it will find the driver for your wifi adapter. It might be an Atheros driver.

Thanks for the response. But I have already resolved the issue and the wireless adapter has been working like never before. Priorities now have changed though.

Hi guys,

A new"B" here that installed the Mint KDE yesterday on my "Dream come true" rig which also had Win7, albeit on an SSD. I wanted to get serious after trying Linux on a VB and so bought a 2 TB HDD and partitioned it in Win7 to one sector of 800GB & another of 900GB. Both of these partitions have not data on them.

Right, so i followed through with the installation being mindful of not installing it on my SSD as that would be a disaster. It has my work files and softwares. So, the issue:

The system directly boots to Linux Mint. It does not show any prompts at startup asking for which operating system I'd like to run. I had installed Linux through an bootable USB and through an installer from this very site.

Any help is appreciated !!!

So, I'm now just trying to get Linux running as my daily driver. It is still dual booted, but I'd like to run things on Linux that I do on Win7. If you have any advice please do share and I'd drop here to ask about things that I do not know about. My requirements are:
1. Suitable office replacements
2. A setup similar to SVP in windows
3. Games YAY!!
Games? Install Steam for Linux. Last I checked, they had Left4Dead. JUST as good as the Windows version. The other alternative is PlayOnLinux. It's similar to WINE (Windows on Linux), yoou can run MOST any Windows program with it.

You're missing a library, which means you either don't have it installed, or, the game requires a different architecture (x86 or x86_64) of the library.

You most likely have to install libsdl2-2.0-0:i386 in Mint. Do you have multi-lib libraries installed? They allow you to run 32bit apps in a 64bit environment. I don't know how Mint does it, but there is probably a package that will install all multi-lib apps for you.

could also look at the shell script, if there's some arch information it should be up near the top, maybe you can just comment something out and it'll run

Ok so I left the Linux for sometime because my exams came up and now am playing Witcher tongue.gif So anyways, I tried to log in to Linux and now the mouse and keyboard do not work. The keyboard does get the LED's on but the key presses do not get registered. The mouse too does not get the movement registered. The keyboard is a CM Storm and the mouse is a Razer DeathAdder Chroma.

Are you able to enter BIOS with the keyboard? Just trying to establish if the problem is OS related or not. I'm completely ignorant to most newer keyboards and mice, so when you say the keyboard 'does get the LEDs on' does this refer to the caps/number/scroll lock LEDs? Can you press the buttons to toggle the LEDs on and off, or does it lock up at any point? If it is working fine until the OS loads, can you try a live DVD/USB to see if you continue to have problems there? Eventually the answer to these types of questions will lead you toward a solution.
