looking at Nvidia's past history:
GTX480 = GF100 fermi
GTX580 = GF110 fermi
GTX680 = GK104 kepler
GTX780 = GK110 kepler
GTX980 = GM204 maxwell
by logic we should be getting a full die next.

GM204 wasn't the big die though, so your logic is flawed. It doesn't coincide with the article in the OP, and it doesn't make sense based on the 900 series.

Not to mentioned it was revealed in the article in the OP and in past rumors that the Pascal Titan is launching first this time around.

don't you see the pattern? they've been shuffling in a big-small-big-small pattern ever since fermi.

Pascal should be the HUGE jump that laptops and mobile gaming is looking for. Heck just think, they'll now be able to have HBM on tablets... And think having it on a laptop with 4GB dedicated memory and much less power consumption that it normally would take. Hm.. I predict a great upcoming for laptops to shine in this new era of HBM.

Does that mean no new major releases for all of 2017?

post #88 of 293
i would also like to bring something up.

the gap between GP104 and GP100 would be immense due to the difference between GDDR5X and HBM2.
GDDR5X may be fast, but HBM2 would be way faster still, and with less power consumption at hand, more headroom for the GPU die itself.

from what i'd estimate, GP100 would be about 50% faster than the fastest GP104.
at which point, if GTX1080 is gonna be priced at $549 as usual, then GTX1080Ti would most probably be priced at $799.
on a side note, if the OP rumor about Titan will have 32GB HBM2 is true, then Titan will cost way more than just $1000.

From just memory standpoint alone it should be a game changer for sure. But we will have to see if the PCI-E 3.0 can handle all that, if there is no problem we should really see a jump from more than 20% compared to the previous generation. It's going to be interesting year both for PC and laptops/tablets.

On that 32GB HBM2 Titan rumor, could it be Nvidia releasing two Titan cards, FP64 enabled, one Titan as we know it HBM2 8GB and one double the transistors HBM2 32GB (maybe still a single card?) as it crossed my mind this would be a kind of replacement for the Kepler segment TitanZ still holds

idk if it makes sense, just guessing

and sure, slapping a 1k/2k price respectively would be highly probable in this case smile.gif
