Thinking bout switching out my FX 8350 for skylake i5 . Leaning towards an i5 6600k or i7 6700k. Any advice or recommendations? Is it worth holding out for Zen for the next line up in the tick tock sequence

I'm not the expert here but I wouldn't think you would gain much moving from that AMD CPU at this time. What are the rest of your specs and is there a specific reason you want to update or just got the itch?

I used to buy exclusively AMD so after 3 years of not having built a desktop and like 4~5 years of not keeping up with benchmarks, i went out and got my self an fx 8350 with 16 gigs of ram and a gtx 970. I had the choice for an i7 4770k with the gtx 780. Anyways after i got it of kijiji i started reading benckmarks ... and my God did i ever regret it.

Literally in bf3 the i5 4690k was getting an extra 30 fps +. I would have never expected AMD to spend all their rearch and developement budget on an architecture that matches Phenom II single threaded performance, on their Second reiterarion.

Who else produces a microprocessor which isnt stable at advertised clocks? (fx 9590) I dont mean to rant but I am done with AMD.

If you want to spend the money, sure, you'll get extra performance.
Keep in mind that you're making a wholesale platform change which is going to necessitate new RAM as well.

Have you seen the bench marks though? The i7 6700k paired with a gtx 960 outperforms the fx 8350 with a gtx 970.

I'd need for you to show me which benchmarks in particular you're looking at, but I own a 6700k, an 8320, and an 8350 and am familiar with with the experience gaming on them.
I'm not disputing that a 6700k is a superior CPU, I'm questioning whether or not you'd actually utilize the extra performance you'd see.

Do it for sure. Can't believe there are people that think a 4 year old AMD can compete with a 6 month old Intel.
