XSPC PHOTON 270 PUMP/RES COMBO AND SOME OTHER WATER COOLING QUESTIONS

first im getting very close to wiring my pumps and i just looked at the wiring and there is one rmp out signal wire and molex with 2 wires , my question is will it be cool to hook the pumps up to a lamptron fc5v3 controller and if i can then im guessing i need to repin the 2 wires on the molex and add them to the signal wire plug? or am i better off just leaving hooked to the psu and us the speed dial on bottom of pump?fyi starting to think that the controller is a wasted expense so im looking for reasons to use it but not at the cost of damage.

second i have been researching on what coolant to use and i think distilled water seems the best route to go , what i need to know is there anything other then biocide i need to add to the loops ? i have silver coils but see were some times you should not use

three--with water cooling do i keep pc on always or is it ok to shut down for periods of time?

A good fan controller isn't a wasted expense at all IMO. I love having my fans turned down to a nice silent 1050 rpm.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't convert the Molex to 3pin to run it off of your fan controller, the PWM signal wire would have to run to your motherboard though. I don't think I would mess with trying to put the pump on the fan controller, especially since you've got PWM capability. Plug that sucker up to your CPU fan header and let the MB manage pump speed through PWM. I keep my D5 on 3 and use my fan controller for controlling fans.

If you're running a loop large enough for 2 270 res's and 2 D5s, you might appreciate being about to turn the cacophony of fan noise down a little bit.

Coolants are very subjective. You ask 5 different people and you'll get 5 different answers. Personally I use distilled with CuSO4 and Mayhems dye. I think I might add a corrosion inhibitor next time I refill though. I don't like silver coils just because it's another type metal ion in the loop. Tons of people use it though, so again just preference.

I've shut mine off for 2 weeks while I was out of state, had no problems when I came back home.
