So in theory i could buy a 43 inch 4k vizio and run 1440p inside it if i chose that some users argued about in earlier posts?

DSR is intended to render the screen internally on a higher resolution than what the display can support and then downscale it to fit the screen real resolution, as i said it will not look as nice as a true 4K screen BUT it will do indeed enhance your textures and the accuracy of the colors, beside and most importantly it will almost eliminate aliasing as it acts like the good old super sampling thumb.gif

abt your question on running a lower resolution on a screen with a higher native one, like running 1440p on a 4k screen; well yes u can but u dont need dsr for it, however be informed that running screen on a resolution that is lower than its native one will not look particularly good; its always better to run a screen at its intended native resolution to get the maximum screen quality out of it, and/or run DSR to enhance it more like what i just mentioned.

again your 970 will seriously struggle on 4k, so why bother with a 4k screen, and upgrading the gpu now while the next generations of gpus is just a few months away is not the best ting to do, thats why i recommended and still do recommend you to go for a high quality 1080p or QHD monitor, the asus i recommended has amazing picture quality and features; beside it has a very high (crazy 165hz) refresh rate so in future when u upgrade to a more powerful gpu u can still enjoy the higher refresh rate of that moniter, in my opinion gaming on 100 FPS QHD will be more enjoyable than gaming on 30 FPS 4k.

dont you agree guys? thumb.gif

Yea.

Just make sure you have enough space for it. You're going to want to be 3'+ back from the screen.

The TV will do 4k @ 60Hz, or, 1080p @ 120Hz. Have not tested 1080p @ 120Hz.

You don't have to setup custom res for this tv btw. It's already an option. All you'd need to do is tell the TV not to scale. Disabling scaling stops it from stretching the image across the screen and instead letter boxes it which ends up with a 1 to 1 pixel count.

I'd suggest picking the tv up somewhere that you can easily return it. Such as Walmart. The thing really is massive and will no doubt take getting used to. At closer then 3' you're going to be too close to this size screen.

Ok. I did have to make that custom res. I had tried it and kept getting failed. I then noticed it there and assumed it was already there. Whatever. You'll have to set it. =D

This is what a 1440p UW res looks like. My picture taking skills and camera suck.

Will have to say that even though I removed my center speaker and moved this TV as far back as it would go on my 30" deep table it still feels too big. Thinking you're going to want at least a 36" deep table/desk for this monster. After I'm done playing around with it I'm going to likely even bring it back and switch it out for a 55" for the living room, or, put it in my bed room... I'm just not sure I can go back to my 27" 1440p monitor now... I've been spoiled.

4k all the \way. With 4k you can down scale your resolution to 1080p and it will look fine. It will save you FPS when you need them.

Went and checked out monitors and im loving the ultrawides but they were all 2560x1080p. Everything in the 3440x1440 was well over budget. May have to save more i loved the FOV of the ultrawide

you are right - but some settings i dont need - 60fps ? no, but i hardly notice! and dont forget this is at 4k, and if i really want more fps, i can set the monitor to 2560x 1440. And that is the beauty of my monitor.

I do get less fps when playing fc3 at 4k, but i prefer it than 2560x1440 with higher fps - so stunning tongue.gif

i could not go back to another set up now - couldnt care less about all this fps lark , 60 is way more than enough for me, and some of of us wouldn't be able to tell the difference between 60 -80 - 100 - 144 an so on biggrin.gif

Thread Starter

Ive decided after seeing the Ultra wide monitors to get with an ultra wide so im wondering out of these 2 choices

34 inch 2560x1080 LG $399.99

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0JC-000D-003Z3&ignorebbr=1

29 inch 2560x1080 LG (FREESYNC) $315.99

http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-29UM67-29-Inch-LED-lit/dp/B00VBNQJKU/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1454419336&sr=1-2&keywords=lg+ultrawide&refinements=p_72%3A1248879011

The real difference here is that one is 34 inches and one is 29 inches. The 29 inch monitor supports Free-Sync which I dont support AMD so im assuming Free-Sync will obviously be useless to me as an nvidia user. So it all boils down to size really at this point. I also understand that these monitors are about 33-40% more pixels then a standard 1920x1080 screen?
