Most of those are going to be very mediocre, DLC-fest, bugged alpha releases, terrible ports or just straight up bad.

Mirror's Edge 1 was great. I'm betting heavy money on EA scamming the consumer on the successor.

  • Re-core - have not heard
  • Zelda-U - no interest ive seen mostly rehash of older games with some addon and graphics update
  • Horizon Zero Dawn - Looking forward to playing this just kind of disappointed because main character is female (nothing against women character but I just like playing as a guy since I am a guy)
  • Final Fantasy VX - I never had any interest in ff series. closest game to ff series that I finish was golden sun 1 and 2 and summon night 1 and 2
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider - never had interest in the series
  • Gravity Rush 2 - have not heard
  • Assassin's Creed: Chronicles - I got blackflag more then enough for me
  • Street Fighter 5 - got SF IV, SC 5 and Tekken 6 wont be getting any fighting games soon
  • Star Fox - not interested I still got my N64 biggrin.gif
  • Ni-Oh - have not heard
  • No Man's Sky - If its like Eve Online I am willing to play
  • Dark Souls III - Just too hard and I haven't beaten 1. Also I feel like DS series would be better for VR (darker version of SAO)
  • Ratchet & Clank - never had interest in the series
  • Unchartered 4 - never had interest in the series
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst - have not heard
  • Cuphead - have not heard
  • Nier Automata - maybe ill wait for review
  • TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan - never interested in TMNT
  • World of Final Fantasy - see ff VX

It is hard to make a good games. If you take off the rose colored glasses you might remember that old games sucked too. We just don't remember them anymore because nobody played them.

I am glad Criterion is trying to make a more pleasant work place. Hopefully their corporate culture is moving in the same place, otherwise any policy decisions they make are useless if nobody feels safe to exploit them. I don't think there is a recipe to creating great games, however. It really comes down to good ideas, good execution, and good individual talents; not unlike any other creative medium.

When art is created for profit, it is no longer priceless. Art, real art, is priceless. We used to act for basically nothing. Video games were made because people really wanted to make something.

And ya know, some people understand you can't force innovation while others don't understand. The way I see it, now too many people run the show who have no clue what art is and it shows in all mediums these days.

I was a HUGE, HUGE fan of Final Fantasy growing up. I started with 2 on SNES (4j). I played all the classic ones, 1 through 9. I also played a ton of other Squaresoft RPGs from their heydey of 1995-2000 on both Super Famicom (translated) and PSone.

Needless to say, the last one I actually bought and loved was Final Fantasy IX (2000). I hated X and every one that came after it.

So, you can imagine that for YEARS now I've felt this way, as FF just keeps getting worse and worse. Beyond that, jRPGs have a horrible reputation now and most get really bad reviews on American sites, and poor reception among the US gaming community, which in turn leads to less and less games being translated and released here. Even when they do get released, no one wants a game with a turn based system anymore and they get bad reviews, hence FF will never go back to the way it was.

I think my story is probably the same for a lot of other people out there who maybe grew up with stuff like Battlefield or CoD. Even if the genres are different, the overall trend is that the games themselves are being dumbed down, lack of innovation, and all the money is going into the graphics, and not enough into gameplay.

I'm lucky because if you look, you can still find good jRPGs by OTHER companies on platforms like 3DS, Vita, PS3 and Wii U. Xenoblade Chronicles X really was fantastic. Anything by Level-5 is fantastic. But there's not really any good games coming out of Square-Enix for me.

It might be worse for fps or action game fans because, all the big series are pretty well established. If you liked BF2 and don't like what has changed in the later games, well too bad. There's really no alternative other than just playing the older games.

I think developers need to go back to putting most of the time into gameplay and innovation to succeed. People will only buy however many variations of a shooter so many times, and then it will get old and they will stop buying. They need to spend less time on graphics and more on novel ideas. Back in the day, ALL the games had mediocre sprite graphics and FPS didn't even exist. What made people buy the games were the ideas and the fact that they were fun. Sadly, at this point I think we'll never get back to that because people care more for looks than substance.

Condensed, what you're proposing is that games go back to being how you liked them. It's all subjective. Who's to say they were better before? For each of you, there's someone else saying the exact opposite. There's no objective way to look at it other than comparing sales numbers and technical aspects, such as graphics, implementation of mechanics, etc.
