Crimson breaking Sony Vegas?

Haven't been able to find any insight on this problem on any other forum, so I thought I'd try here since there are a lot of sharp people. The main reason I built my box was for video editing, and I use Sony Vegas Pro. It's currently on version 13. I do a lot of multi-camera shoots and multi-cam editing is pretty easy to do with Vegas. One of the features they have is in a multi-monitor set up you can have your second monitor display in full screen whichever "take" you choose from the quad-view. This makes the multi-camera editing really fast because you can see what exactly you are cutting.

I am not sure if it was the last Catalyst update before Crimson or Crimson itself that seems to have broken this feature, but now when I try to show the full-screen version of the multi-cam "take" the quad view on my main monitor starts strobing and flickering and the full-screen on my second monitor is frozen. Once I pause the video, the 2nd monitor will jump to the current frame, but it won't play. You can frame-advance through and it will change, but once you hit play, the quad-view flickers, the full-screen freezes. Here is a video of the flickering in the quad-view:

If I uncheck the "display full frame take" button, the quad view appears in my second monitor and moves along flawlessly. It is only the full screen take that doesn't work.

I have been through the various Vegas settings and nothing fixes the problem, but I'm hoping you guys, who know Catalyst and/or Crimson a lot better than I do might have some insight on what could mess up multi-camera editing. How do the AMD settings in the control panel interact with windows 7 display settings?

I have resisted installing Windows 10 because I have heard of people have problems with Vegas (particularly plugins) but something in the way that the new AMD drivers interacts with Vegas has broken the multi-cam editing.

I tried uninstalling crimson and installing the catalyst drivers that came with my Sapphire R9 Fury X, but whatever was changed was not fixed and the problem persisted.

The only thing I haven't done at this point is clean install, but after all of the hoops I had to jump through to install windows 7 into my M.2 drive, I'm hesitant to go through it all again.

It's a shot in the dark, but it never hurts to ask. Thanks!

Would you try enabling "Steady Video"? I have the same symptoms: hardware acceleration is broken, the playback freezes, but this fixes it for me.

Is that in Vegas settings or AMD?

It should be in Crimson's "other settings" menu, a.k.a. what is left of the good old Catalyst.

Okay, here is where I found that setting. I enabled it, but the strobing of the quad-view persists unfortunately.

May I ask if your second screen started to play correctly?
I haven't intended this as a resolution to flickering. I had that before I updated the driver and thus cannot verify it.
I urge you to uninstall the driver and the new crimson driver menus separately and reinstall a well-known-to-be-working driver, possibly ‘15.7.1’. Reverting to a previous driver package after a reset of all registry settings, possibly through a reinstallation of the OS would be my action if I were doing critical work, along with crossing my fingers.
The way I noticed 'flickering' was a specific moment in video where the Catalyst Enhancements would stop recognising the scene and that would cause a flicker as if by rapid on/off switching of dynamic contrast, or the facial tone remapping, yet it was reproducible on the same scene in just one video player in just one section of a single movie and I never noticed it elsewhere. They might have broken the shader detection algorithms - though it is my wild guess - the ‘old’ Catalyst driver menus would allow for individual selection of video colour and video quality panes which is where I would suggest turning off all "video color" enhancement options to see whether it cancels.
I also had inconsistent monitor scanning with the new driver(right corner would repeatably underscan and resetting the driver started to fail in fixing the issue after just 10 tries) and I suspect it might be related to the monitor protocol. I tested that one out and removing just the crimson package wasn't conclusive which is why I suggest you try reverting the driver itself, too.

No, the second monitor still doesn't play correctly.

I will try to wipe the drivers off and install one of the catalyst drivers. I believe after installing the drivers on the Sapphire CD, there was one catalyst update where multi-monitor editing worked fine. Then Crimson came along and killed it. :/
