Wait what?! xD Holy crap. Yeah no kidding... Because this thing stays at like... 77*C in Prime 95 for just the CPU test. Dell doesn't always do the best thermal paste applications it'd seem...
I'm kinda shocked about these temps I'm hearing about. Every other person says something different. Quite literally. Mine sit at 77*C CPU and 75*C GPU under the highest possible load I've ever seen in games and/or plain stress testing. But here we have other people who claim upper 90s...? I know the i7 model runs a lot warmer, but I didn't think it'd matter THAT much with how powerful the cooling solution is.
Yea I hear you. Dell cakes the thermal paste on and its not always great contact either. The XPS 15 apparently has a plague of a bent cooler which doesn't make complete contact with the GPU, at least, it could make better contact.
This is one users review of the thermal paste job after he replaced the TIM. As you see the TIM on the side of the GPU is pretty thick, meaning poor contact. CPU looks surprisingly good! Once I get my XPS 15, hopefully after tax season, I'll repaste the CPU and GPU with CLU. Fingernail polish the caps on the GPU and leads on the CPU and we should be rockin!
