>>Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK Hands-On Review<< - Page 21

I have to take my laptop with me everywhere, which is why I considered the 7559 for better battery life and portability without worrying about it turning into a full-on permanent desktop so as-is performance had to be decent. I saw the Y510p eGPU setup though and it seemed pretty cool.

Unfortunately the VBIOS is still locked down on these 960Ms so we can't go above +135MHz on the core and can't up the voltage. This overclock is pretty solid as is.

Yeah it's a good clock but I see plenty of others with 1400 core so still a shame for when your stationary

My goal was to not bring my desktop and also not need to rebuild a system in the near future. Y510p fits that bill for now so it worked out but even with that said I still need to mod the heatsinks to overclock the cpu and gpu's while it's still mobile.

Correct me if i am wrong on the following issues:

1. The mobo does not support DDR4 at all. Anyone tried? I don't care if the bios reports that there is no ram installed or 0 if the system is stable (no bsod)
2. If i can't install DDR 4, should i buy DDR3L having 2133 Mhz. Anyone tried? Again i don't care if the bios reports that there is no ram installed or 0 if the system is stable (no bsod)

Up to what values for the CPU and GPU/Memory i can overclock without having artifacts or bsod?

I plan to order the laptop today or tomorrow from Amazon and i want to add the 250 GB Samsung SSD (SATA III) and also Corsair Vengeance Memory Kit 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3L Unbuffered (CMSX16GX3M2C2133C11)

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I have questions like you too. Have you or anyone else upgraded like that and still stable? Thanks a lot.

The maximum speed accepted by the chipset is 1600MHz DDR3L. The DDR4 socket is physically different too, so you can't hotswap faster memory into the slot. The performance difference is negligible though. You, likely, wouldn't notice a drop in comparison to other 960M machines before the 960M becomes the limiting factor.
