Hello forum users.

I am at the planning stage of my new ITX small form factor build and require advice for the construction of the chassis.

The chassis will be designed as a StarCraft Terran Battlecruiser, I am also considering the Protoss Carrier however I am undecided.

I am aware the a StarCraft Battlecruiser Case Mod has already been done as shown in the youtube link however I wish to create it in much greater detail and a smaller form factor.

So, assuming I have the 3D designs completed, is it feasible to use a 3D Printer to product the parts I will need for the construction of a chassis.
I have included a link of the Battlecruiser to give you an idea of the shape and size.

I appreciate any advice or suggestions.

Kind Regards - Chris

That's cool, I see the casing is quite thick and looks strong, have you got a photo with the lid on?

I assume you own a 3D Printer? I am looking at different models and cannot be sure which to buy.

I'm looking to build a 3D printed ITX case too, but I'm still designing it. Since I only have a 225mm x 145mm x 150mm print area, it needs to be modular so I can bolt it all together. But right now I'm working on some external components.. I have an external watercooling tower / pump & res mount designed, that just needs to be printed.

If you haven't printed before, it takes quite a while to get to learn how to make good prints. (heated bed settings, print temp settings, speed settings, overhang angle/length, bridging, bed leveling, etc)

Also expect to spend a lot of time.. and I mean a lot if you are planning on a big case. Even a raspberry pi case can take several hours if you want it to print with high quality.

I actually never printed the lid, because the mobo in there ended up having some problems so i never bothered.

Yeah, i own a printer. Mine is self-designed and built though.

check out the Flashforge Dreamer, about to get one myself, seems like good value and high quality prints. Has most of the features you want for printing in multiple materials, has dual extruder (2 different materials printed at the same time)

I would pick up the PowerSpec 3D Ultra for $300 less. It's the same internals as the Dreamer, just in a different housing.

For not very detailed prints, you can easily design things using Sketchup and export to an STL file. If you want a higher polygon count, you can use any sort of CAD software, then convert to an STL file. Once you have the STL file, you can use a slicer software to make the gcode or compatible file which works with whatever printer you choose.
