Edit: Mirrors Edge is DX12 i think, releases in May, Hitman should be as it's the same engine as Deus Ex. Ark, Arma 3, JC3, and TR are supposedly getting Dx12 patches this year too. Lets see if the patches are worth a damn, or just there for more marketing.. rolleyes.gif

to be fair the game looks great and you can turn down some settings like HBAO+ and tesselation which both heavily impact performance on AMD cards.

2x290 won't get you very far on 4K when you want to play superb looking games.

Its funny how every time amd runs bad on nvidia titles at launch... Yet every time people need to turn it around.

Tessellation is not the problem. Basically I like sweclokers, digital foundry and computerbase.

I hope that amd will fight with open source. I am not going to buy 2 different cards....

PS. This games are mostly designed for gcn. As you can see even latest nvidia titles run better on AMD... After patches of course.

This thread has raised a question for me.

Where should the responsibility lay when it comes to how a game performs on a given piece of hardware? I don't know enough about coding/programming etc. to know the answer. In my layman understanding of these things it would be the hardware manufacturer unless they wanted to completely open up their hardware like they do with consoles, is this correct? Seems to me that the people with the intimate knowledge of how the hardware works are the ones that need to be optimizing the interface between game and hardware. I could be completely off on this since it is just a guess.

If CFX works 2 x 290s OCed get higher performance than GTX980 Ti but there GTX980 Ti us below 40 fps. Witcher 3 for example I get 45-55 fps in a old patch where CFX worked with eveything Ultra no AA, no HW.

multi GPU is always a problem. It sadly sounds better in theory than it actually is.

A friend of mine recently purchased 2x980 Ti and is basically raging every time I see him about GPU usage and SLI support in games. He holds off on buying many games because of it.


The best advice I can give people this generation is actually looking at settings, what they do, how they differ from low to high and what performance impact they have. It seems like most games nearly look identical on mid/high settings and many settings like god rays in Fallout 4, tesselation in Tomb Raider and many more games actually don't do anything but tank performance


Sure it does feel good to mindlessly crank all settings all the way up, but it is very ineffective. thumb.gif

Yeah I will see how tessellation effects this game. Also it clearly looks so different from last TR where AMD had the ready drivers while now Nvidia has the upper hand. Just shows how bad its for Hardware vendors to publish games.

Bolded^^^ Honestly, I think this is really the take away message from this whole thread and really the whole "Gimpworks" controversy. Whether it is AMD or Nvidia backing a game, either situation is bad for the industry and mostly us, the consumer.
