DPI and pixel skipping in CS:GO

Just curious about something in CS:GO

There is a console command, cl_showpos 1, which shows your model's position and the angle you're looking at. Moving your crosshair changes the angle. Right now, I play on 400 DPI and 3.6 sensitivity and moving my mouse a tiny bit enough to move it to a new angle changes the x angle by 0.08. If I use 900 DPI and 1.6 sensitivity, the new angle changes by only 0.02. Does this mean I'm getting more precision with higher DPI since the tiniest movement captures more angles? I thought DPI was just mouse speed....Also, note that changing my resolution from 800x600 to 1920x1080 doesn't impact the results at all.

You probably should use 800 dpi, Source has a weird issue with sensitivities over 2.72, you get some skipping issues.

Lower ingame sensitivity skips less pixels so you can higher your DPI in order to lower your ingame sensitivity if youre uncomfortable with pixel skipping.

where did you get the number 2.72 from ?

more importantly who the hell uses a sensitivity even near 2.7. If you can do more than a 360 across your entire mousepad that's insane - and it's even more insane if you actually have muscle memory for that

I'm trying to remember where I found the post but apparently Source and Unreal both have weird rounding errors with sensitvity.

I know Unreal has trouble with any numbers lower than 5 in game, so you have to adjust your dpi to 400 if you normally use 800 dpi and something like 4.9 or slower.

As for Source I can't remember where I found the info regarding that one.

That's why I use a 18x16 mouse pad, I have 38.5 cm per 360 for my sens, and when you factor in the size of my hands and the size of the mouse it's just enough for me to avoid slipping off the pad when doing a 360 or bumping into anything while I do quick turns.

I thought you were trolling...

I often go with 400 dpi 5.4 sensitivity feels pretty good, allows me to focus on other things better and you can use it as well as many other setting for having big advantages in specific spots. biggrin.gif

Why would you use 400 DPI for 20cm/360? Use a higher DPI, I don't remember the site but there is a site that tells you the very minimum DPI you need to avoid Pixel skipping, I'm sure 20cm/360 would need more than 400.
