These monitors will be among the first to leverage DisplayPort 1.3, to serve up blazing fast 144 Hz refresh rates, on resolutions as high as 3440 x 1440 pixels

I guess these are the VA panels from AU Optronics that we heard about recently.

Maybe. It would be unfortunate if true. Samsung does make their own panels and they make very good ones. It wouldn't surprise me if these were Samsung designed and manufactured panels and I really hope they are. AUO makes some fast panels that tick the right marketing boxes, but their actual real world quality is awful.

Out of Samsung, LG and AUO, no one else has confirmed 3440x1440 144 Hz. Also it doesn't necessarily mean it's crap. Most of their new panels have been AHVA. If they've managed to push the response time of VA down this could be an amazing gaming / movie watching monitor.

21:9 monitors will be very popular in the next year or so.

After experiencing 21:9 I can easily say 16:9 is dead to me... 21:9 with higher resolution, higher hz is what the industry needs to lean towards.

For those who never experienced 21:9 gaming, you have no idea what you are missing.

I am glad Samsung is also coming up with these panels.

I tried one of the early 21:9 LG 29" panels, I like the aspect ratio but I didn't like how slow it was. Hopefully these are reasonably priced when they come out and solve that issue.

I don't have one, but have used one. I absolutely love 21:9 for productivity purposes alone. Just the extra screen space, although it looked weird as Hell at first.

Got no moneys for this. Must save up for OLED 4k.

3440x1440 looks like it will succeed 1920x1080 as the most popular choice for gamers in the upcoming years though.

For desktop or productivity use, yes you are correct.

But as far as gaming, a 21:9 monitor will always see more of the game or content, and have a larger FOV than any 16:9 monitor. No matter the resolution.
