Weird stability issue with intel integrated graphics

I've been getting this issue since I updated my motherboard BIOS from it's initial version, which I'm going to assume was F4 as it's been a while but I truly don't remember, to F7 and an F8a BIOS Gigabyte support gave me to try and resolve issues with graphics card compatibility.

It seems that whenever the intel graphics accelerator on my Core i5 4670K is disabled, set to a power saving mode, or has intel HD graphics drivers installed, I'll get these freezing crashes, usually within 30 minutes of either booting into Windows or installing intel HD graphics, that require a force reboot. When this happens, and I press my hard reset button, my computer will shut down for a few seconds before starting up again, much like when updating a BIOS or maybe overclocking the CPU.

Now, I've been safe from this issue if I just leave the IGP enabled constantly and don't install drivers, but I guess I finally got off my butt and decided to ask around about this issue, as this seems to be subject to me and my setup. This issue has persisted through a PSU upgrade, and through Windows 8.1 to 10.

Where are you getting the drivers? Do not use the drivers from windows update. Only download the driver packages from Intel.
Step back down through bios versions until you find one that works for you.
The general guidance with bioses would be to leave them alone unless you are experiencing a problem that might be fixed in a newer revision.

Try stressing the graphics and see if the freezes come faster; Check the CPU temperatures at the time of the crash.

They tend to download automatically from Windows update, but IIRC I think I've tried downloading the drivers directly from intel but had the same issue regardless. I've permanently prevented Windows from updating the drivers with the Microsoft hide updates tool (Why do I need that in 2016) and disabling automatic driver installation from startup.

Stress the IGP? What programs would you recommend?

Thanks for replying, seemed like no one could be bothered trying to help me.

No problem, I would recommend checking if Folding @ Home runs on your GPU. I generally stress my hardware this way, plus it's for a good cause.
Alternatively, try stressing the GPU with this tool, or any other thing you mange to google out of the google machine for "gpu stress test."
