Help in picking a new monitor 25+ & IPS

Looking to upgrade my monitor. Been using a Viewsonic IPS 24" 1920x1080 for over 5 or so years. Currently using a GTX 970 for GPU. Tried a 29" widescreen 2560x1080 and did not care for it. I think I want a more 16:10 or 16:9 ratio (vs the 21:9 on the widescreen I tried).

I game on the monitor, but I also do a lot of photo work & writing on it. So clarity (typing) and color space (IPS panel) are very important if not more important than gaming performance. Another item that is really important to me is the stand. I really desire height adjustment because when writing a lot being able to move up or down really extends the comfort of the monitor.

I've been looking at a Dell U2715H (27" 2560x1440 IPS), BenQ GW2765HT (same) and Asus PB278Q (same). The Asus & BenQ are currently cheaper by $100 on amazon.

So, I really appreciate what you think of these or similar screens. Certainly open to additional offers as well. Concerned about going much higher than 1440 (like to 4k) because of much writing I have to do.

Oh, and I've kicked around changing the gtx 970 to a gtx 980ti (hybrid) but it will be a little way off.

Thanks to all.

The Dell and BenQ have been reviewed at TFTCentral.

The BenQ can't get good color temperature without calibration sadly. Between the two I'd get the Dell, although I'd rather get the BenQ BL3200PT. They all have the same color space (sRGB), they all have pretty good color accuracy. Both BenQ models are similar in response time performance with the Dell being slightly better. The BL3200PT provides much deeper blacks, much better contrast, and no IPS glow although it does have black crush instead.

Thanks for the input. Also reminded me to share that I do have a Spyder calibrator for my screens. Do you think with the ability to have hardware calibration the BenQ is in the running?

I like the port options (sd reader and sub) on the va panel but the difference in color space has me concerned.

Thanks again.

Thanks again.

All of the monitors my post mentions (so the ones you're considering and the BenQ BL3200PT) have the same color space, about 100% sRGB. So no concern there unless you do really want more, in which case none of these monitors are an option.

The fact that you have a Spyder should solve the main issues with the GW2765HT. The BL3200PT still has my vote though.

The LG 27MB85R-B should also fit in your list.

I got one from Newegg for $439 recently, although the price ATM is back up to $519.

It's got faster pixel response than any of the panels you're considering and better color presets. Mine came with almost zero backlight bleed, and very mild IPS glow. You can only see the glow in a dark room on a black screen. It is undetectable otherwise.

The first one I was sent had some dead pixels, but the replacement is pixel perfect with excellent uniformity.

The AG coating is very light, with no crosshatching.

The LG also has extremely low input lag.

Good luck!

FWIW - The Dell U2715H and LG 27MB85R-B use the same LG AH-IPS panel... but the LG is built better IMHO. The Dell's inner bezel is glossy black and will exaggerate IPS glow and impact perceived black depth on dark scenes, where the LG has matte grey bezels and is a bit more friendly to dark content (about as good it can for an IPS).

Another consideration might be the LG 27MC67. My brother has one, and it is beautiful. Very low glow, pixel perfect, good factory calibration, and it has freesync from 40 to 60fps. Of course, it's 4k and you'll need some pretty high end hardware to keep it above 40fps in games. 4k on the desktop is just amazing.
