From what I gather, there was an open source program that existed several years ago that he dev ended up abandoning, I have no idea if it's related to that or not. In any event, it was free and it worked.

Yeah, that's the impression I got... it was on Github or something, so public, but originally not his.

In any case, the author seems a bit evasive about answering where the code came from and is talking about taking legal options etc... i'm not sure that sets a particularly good, or at least trustworthy vibe around the app.

I think I will avoid it so long as I don't really trust the author. We've seen stuff being shoehorned into apps before, like bitcoin mining or advertising... so i'm not sure I trust this chap.

I don't even know why they can't get along, from experience, competition is good, especially if you combine your efforts and compete to achieve a common goal, unless you are razer and you just do a database dump tongue.gif

You got it mixed up the other way around, the author of Steam Cleaner filed a DMCA take down because that other guy (Andrew) stole his code, that's why you see Andrew all salty in the comments

It's safe and as you can see others here have found it helpful, including myself, Kotaku wrote up on it http://www.kotaku.com.au/2016/01/a-new-tool-on-greenlight-cleans-out-your-steam-gog-and-origin-cache/

Ah fair enough. Just always a bit wary of software that's already having publicity and legal issues before its even taken off!

Any chance a 3rd party program like this could have some malicious code in it?

Nifty little program. Cleaned up 968mb for me. Could do another 268mb of cache/logs, but I value that stuff a little more.
