Monitor for housemate

Hey guys,
My housemate is after a new monitor, he mainly uses the pc for gaming.
He currently has a 24" 1080p benq 60hz monitor, which i think has a 2ms response time, maybe more.

I'm not fully up to speed with the different panel types (TN, IPS etc) and how they differ, and which is best for gaming (avoid IPS for gaming from memory?) and which panels are known for issues.
Price range is about AUD$400 maximum.

I think he should move 1440p + 120/144hz, (he has a 290x), to justify a new monitor over his current 1080p 60hz.
he's pretty happy with 24" also.
free-sync not required.

Any thoughts/recommendations on good value monitors that meet these specs? Also if anyone has personal experience with the monitor they are recommending it'd be preferable.

IPS is between slow and fast. It has a light glow to the image which can be off putting for many.

TN is the fastest, but provides the worst image quality (in terms of colour).

VA has the best image quality, slightly slower than IPS though.

For the price range I'd get the ASUS VG278HE. It's a 144Hz 27" 1080p TN panel. The colour is decent for a TN (I have one).

Sweet as, thanks for the reply, I'll suggest this to him tonight.

Good to hear it has decent colours, i'm pretty sure it will be a step up for him biggrin.gif
