My point ultimately was it was more difficult to get kills in BF2 and even BC2. It required a little more effort than BF3/4. I couldn't play BF2 like i play BF3/4 and do well. To put it in in perspective I maintained a solid 1.9-2k/d in BF3 and ran around with a m40 and a red dot one shoting people with ease because the game allowed it. Doing that in BF2 was impossible.

Those two things are one in the same.

I am a metro junkie, almost all of my matches for the last 6 months have been on ADK #7 24/7 Metro. That map (or any CQB map) with an SMG (kitted out with all the hipfire accessories) is as close to COD as battlefield gets. This of course does not represent all of battlefield, or even a majority, but it does represent all of COD (and you don't even need SMG's to do it in COD). I think it was a smart move to incorporate these CQB elements into Battlefield, it helps it appeal to a wider audience and also prevents it from being a one trick pony (Arrma, Squad, BF1942).

With BF1942 and BF2 it was mods that brought variety to the table, and they helped the games last a long time. With BF3 and BF4 they added some variety themselves which seems to have angered the purists who want more realism. Arrma exists but without mods it can be quite boring, hopefully Squad takes off really well since it kind of bridges that gap and maybe we will get lucky and everyone who ever complained about realism in BF will move over to squad.

Make shooting actually skilled with a learning curve. And make ranks matter. That's what most people want and it keeps the game going as people strive to learn and get better. It would also he'll bring competitive play to battlefield. That's what I want. The graphics the era all our second to skilled gameplay with a goal to get better (or reward). I know I described Csgo but why can't battlefield do the same but with larger maps and vehicles. If shooting is not skilled than the fps game is just casual play

So, having things hard to do in a game makes it more skill based? Having to move your mouse a certain way makes a game more skill based? To me, skill is a set of traits that makes one player better and more successful than others in a game. You know, things like intelligence, knowledge of mechanics, metagame, etc. It's nothing inherent to the game. Saying a game is more "skill based" makes absolutely no sense to me. Gunplay being more "accessible" in BF3/4 simply makes other aspects of the game more accomplishable. If you can't kill a dude at 100m fast, all it does is keep you unable to finish the kill or stuck in that engagement for a longer period of time, the latter of which being usable for other circumstances in-game. A skilled player will rekt in almost every game of the same kind in equal measure, provided enough time and emotional investment.

Ultimately, how "competitive" a game is depends not on how hard its mechanics are to master, but how big the playerbase is and how willing its players are to become better and better.

All that tells me is that either your playstyle suits BF3/4 better or that the average player in BF2 was better. It doesn't necessarily say anything of the "skill" required to play it.
