Quality case ?

Thread Starter
Been looking for a high quality mATX case for an upcoming build. Want a tower, not interested in a cube style or something like that. Problem is most seem to be targeted at low end budget price points. My current PC is in a Lian Li PC-65 I bought over 10 yrs ago. Nice case in its day but I want smaller now.

I'm located in US. No set budget but I'd like to keep it to $200 or less. I am willing to spend more to get quality/features if I feel is worth it as I plan to use the case for a long time covering multiple builds as I did with my PC-65.

Size is the most important consideration. Size wise the Silverstone PS12 case would be my ideal:

http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=618&area=en

Some specific criteria:

- 120mm fans or larger
- easy to access/remove dust filers
- removable drive cages
- USB 3

Removeable mobo tray would be nice along with other high end features not listed here.

The vast majority of the smaller cases I've seen are still too wide. My current front runner is the Lian Li PC-A41. Even this case is a bit bigger than I want but it has most of my requirements (and I am partial to silver aluminum look).

So far brands I've looked at are Lian Li, CM, Silverstone, Thermaltake, InWin, Fractal, Zalman, Rosewill, Corsair, maybe a couple others.

Would greatly appreciate suggestions as I'm so damn frustrated at all the vendors making mostly budget oriented mini-tower cases.

Thank you for the reply.

I checked them out. Wow talk about expensive, $300-600. That is too much. I want a quality case but I can make do with the better mass-produced cases for $100-200 smile.gif Besides, most all of them look rather large.

Width is determined by height over motherboard (towers usually try for 165-170mm to fit cooler. With that a 92mm fan fits the rear. Cable management increases width, more room more width.
ATX Power Supply also determines width.

BitFenis, Phanteks, Sentey, XIigmatek may have what you want,

Bitfenix pandora may be right up your alley, compact and pretty well made from what I hear though I have not come in contact with one out in the wild yet.

Thanks guys for the replies. Checked out the suggestions and here are my thoughts:

Corsair 350D: size is closer to a mid-tower than a mini-tower. Its taller than most mini-towers and as deep as well. Its nearly the same size as mu current case. The 88R is closer to my size but again, budget oriented.

Fractal: the arc mini is a little smaller than the define bit still both are bigger (210mm wide, same as my PC-65) than I want

Bitfenix pandora is narrower but it has too many flaws. Plus do I want an optical drive bay.

Phanteks Evolve: very nice case but too wide (matx evolve is 230mm wide)

Didn't like what I saw at senty and Xigmatek, nothing there that I would choose over my current front runner.

Please, keep the suggestions coming.

Sounds like you should go mitx.

The case I buy will house either matx or mitx, I want that flexibility. There are a lot of mini-tower cases out there but the vast majority are budget oriented (and the compromises that entails), or they're really ATX mid-towers shortened by an inch or so. I just want a well-designed/built, full-featured mini-tower that is a little narrower, little shorter, little less deep than a typical mid-tower. If I can get one for $50 that is fine, and so is if I have to dish out $150 (for a nice aluminium case).

Thanks for the suggestions, please keep them coming.

The Inwin 901 is nice.

My biggest issue was trying to get rid of the 400 odd watts converted into heat by my CPU, hence the compromise exhaust pull fan outside the case.
I think it might be a problem with all small cases.
