Well they are...it's gotten better but VA panels are still pretty slow with certain transitions taking as long as 40+ ms. We'll just have to see how these sammys perform

A vast generalization that really only applies to AUO VA panels (in computer monitors) and a few others nowadays. On that note, AMVA+ has yet to be properly evaluated I believe, so we can only really confirm that it applies to AMVA. Many Samsung VA panels and others don't have this issue at all. People need to stop spreading this outdated info around as it only applies to some, not all, modern VA panels. It is true however that IPS and TN both look like crap next to VA, as far as picture quality goes.

Also the Acer XB271HU pretty much makes the PG279Q and XB270HU worthless, based on this:

I have a Acer XB270HU and a Dell U2713HM and honestly, I have the Dell attached to main rig more for the (what I feel) is the better beauty. It overclocks to 85MHz and my eyes pick up no issues gaming at 1440 at max setting on any AAAAAAAA game I have. That's just me.

I do want a pair of 34" curved 1440's though. laughingsmiley.gif

My advice?

When you get it..... play everything you have in your normal environment until you look like

THEN and only then take a 20 min catnap ..... when you wake browse porn for 1.26 hrs without touching a Cheeeeeeeto..... shower, dress and and don't stalk the neighbors daughter visually (she knows you do and told her father's boyfriend.... a dispatch operators cousin) THEN and only then IF you are happy with your buy shut the place down and go have a nice steak dinner. thumb.gif

If you do anything other than that yer gonna be peeeeeesed because you let someone WITHOUT yer senses into yer noggin. wink.gif

And this:

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/asus_rog_swift_pg279q.htm

AMVA+ has yet to be properly reviewed and the VA panels that have been reviewed so far have been shown to be slow, so yes most VA panels are in fact slow. I don't think it's outdated information as you don't see VA panels hitting response time numbers as low as the AHVA panel do like shown here: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/images/acer_xb270hu/response_4.png

I also did say we'll need to wait and see how the Samsung panels do once they're properly reviewed, I know VA panels do have the potential to be the best gaming LCDs that will blow the doors off TN and IPS, if it can just be implemented properly. But anyways once the Samsung does come out, it'll be way out of the $800 budget regardless.

That's not correct. There are a number of AMVA+ models which have been quite thoroughly reviewed - BenQ BL3200PT, EW2740L, EW2750ZL etc. and they most certainly suffer from the characteristic variability in pixel response times. The '+' really just refers to additional domains being used for the panel, there is no wizardry going on with pixel responsiveness on these models. That's not to say that future AMVA+ panels couldn't improve in this regard as there's plenty of room for improvement.

Regarding Samsung's SVA panel as used on the S34E790C, it most certainly does have some variability in pixel response times with some slower than optimal pixel transitions. But it is free from the sort of 'smeary' trailing that results from very sluggish response times. In terms of responsiveness that panel is the best I've seen in VA form - and given my extensive experience with VA models, that's saying something.

Yup this is what I'm saying. VA will always be slower on average than fast IPS and TN (and a bit less consistent), but many high end TVs and a few monitors don't have response times high enough to cause the notorious 'VA ghosting' aka trailing or smearing. He generalized them as having 40+ ms transitions when many don't.
