Switching Fans to Push/Pull? Either or? Front mount?

Hey Guys, so I recently installed the Predator 240 to the front of my NZXT H440. Much to my shagrin, with my motherboard heatsinks, the rad wouldn't fit at the top of the case..........

Currently, to not kill it while I inquire, I have three 120mm fans at the top as intake, and the rad at the front is exhaust along with the back 140mm.

I know optimal would be intake at the front, exhaust at the top and back. I'd like to switch to that but I am wondering how I can achieve that with the front mounted Predator? Is it simply a case of unscrewing the fans, flipping them around but having them still on the same side of the rad? Or would I have to put them on the inside of the rad in a pull config?

Would there be any benefit of Push/Pull?

(If I sounded like a noob, I generally am at this whole airflow shindig.)

You could put the fans in either orientation and probably be fine. If you just flip them around on the same side of the rad you would be putting them in a pull orientation, putting them on the other side of the rad would be a push orientation. Push will generally yield better performance, albeit sometimes very marginal. I would definitely make the rad fans intake and the top and back fans exhaust imo.

Going push/pull can give better performance also, but again sometimes not very much. If you have the room for it, feel free to do it, it definitely won't hurt any and will let the fans run slower and less noise if anything.

Very helpful post, appreciate it. Looks like I'll be flipping the suckers over. I just thought that having the fans trying to pull air THROUGH the rad into the case wasn't going to be successful somehow tongue.gif

Also, when you say push/pull and if I have room for it. I am correct in thinking that's like, 2 fans on either side of the rad? Or one of each side? Lmao.

Glad you found it helpful. Yes push pull is fans on both sides of the rad working together, like this:



The reason for rads being intake is that your using the cool ambient air from the room to cool the rad instead of the warm air from inside the case.

Ahh that makes a lot of sense tongue.gif So I have 2 spare 120mm fans. Can i attach them to the other side and do push pull? I have the room at the front

Yes you can. It is usually consider best practice to use matching fans on both sides, but if they're not it's not a deal breaker, you see lots of builds with different fans. Just try to make sure all the fans run around the same speed.
