Loop upgrade - looking for advice

Thread Starter
I'm currently running 2500k @4.6ghz + 2x 290. I have RS120 + EK XT360 + RS240 rads.

I'm using the Bitfenix Recon fan controller, pump (mcp35x)

The time has come to change the liquid, clean the blocks etc. I haven't done it in a long, long while now. I was thinking to use this opportunity to upgrade the loop.

The idea is to run fans off most of the time and at maximum of 800RPM when gaming. Pump ideally at lowest setting.

Here are my ideas:
-Buy Alphacool UT 280rad and put it at the bottom of the case (http://www.alphacool.com/product_info.php/info/p984_Alphacool-NexXxoS-UT60-Full-Copper-280mm.html)
-Move the RS240 externally, to the back of the case
-Use my spare Swiftech mcp35x pump with a XSPC Bay Res to create a CPU only loop, with RS240 + RS120 (or maybe single RS240 with 2x 800RPM is enough?)
- For GPU loop use the 360 + 280 rads
-Fans.. it's very difficult for me to decide, since reviews are lacking comparisons at 800RPM and less. Should I just get NF-F12?

Looking for feedback and advice.

I'd advise against the dual-loop situation. Completely unnecessary. You should get a pump top for your tube res and mount it to your 5.25inch bays. Maybe pick up a variable speed D5 for slightly better flow on the lowest setting with your slower fans (and near silence). Your current radiator setup is plenty sufficient for your hardware, so I'd stick with what you have even with lower RPM fans. NF-F12s are nice, but they're hideous and wouldn't go well with your pink coolant setup at all (or any setup really). Currently using Scythe Gentle Typhoons, and I'd suggest those, but they're a little difficult to get your hands on these days. EK Vardar's are decent as well as Corsair SP120s.

keep what you have moa. do you mean the nf-f12 ippc? that 2500k doesnt put out enough heat to warrant its own loop. if youre having high temps, find the problem and fix whats wrong.

weinstein with his set-up, his 35x is at least as capable as a d5 would be. why spend $100 to replace what aint broke?
the ippc nf-f12 fans arent even close to hideous.
it isnt hard to find gentle typhoons at all. https://www.google.com/search?q=gentle+typhoons&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb
corsair fans are garbage, not decent.

Thanks for all the replies. I don't mean the IPPC, because although they look much better, they seem too fast, and I'm not sure what's their minimum speed they can run at without some weird noises due to undervolting etc. I was thinking of http://noctua.at/en/nf-f12-pwm.html

I think the slowest speed for IPPC is 825RPM?

Gentle typhoons unfortunately seem to be out of stock in the UK. What do you think about two pumps in the same loop? I feel like I might have low flow in the system.

you dont have low flow.
the ippc fans except for a single model, no i dont know which it is, are pwm. plain noctua are overpriced average fans. you would be better with cougar fans.

Yes, IPPC are PWM but they only start to spin at 5V, which brings them to 825 RPM (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZkW3tmuyWM)

It's perhaps bad practice, but I have a lot of 90 degree fittings in my loop - the are very wide inside, but nonetheless from what I've read they are touted as flow killers.

Also something I noticed while looking around the case, it seems like copper is starting to show up under the nickel plating of the CPU block - does this mean I should replace it asap or is it purely cosmetic?

your nickle may be be stripping off your blocks. any silver in your loop? the nickle may be starting to plug your block channels slowing flow. normal circumstances, your pump is fine for your loop. if you dont believe me, ask wermad. besides, a d5 wouldnt have more muscle to push through more restriction. you need 15+ 90* fittings to start doing any damage.
as far as the fans, dont even bother talking about voltage on pwm fans. you dont control pwm fans with voltage control. it shortens their life. there is zero reason to screwing with voltage to control pwm fans. i despise people who buy pwm fans and do not have the capability to control them correctly. they get mad at me when i start telling them what a dumb idea they had. if you cant control them, buy some decent cougar fans. theyre good.
