I thought the issue was router, but I put back my older router and the issue persists. I have a mild memory of it happening on my second PC also, so I'm not 100% sure its the PC but I believe it is.
When I download large files (primarily games on steam) it actually over-runs my entire network and causes my internet to go down sometimes almost instantly, but almost always within 30 seconds.
I knew that the PC had some sort of spyware/malware/virus so I decided it was time to pull out the new HDD that was larger I had bought on sale and was too lazy to install as I wasn't in need of the space. I did that and I thought all was well, I had fresh windows and was able to download all the games in 1 shot NBD.
Fastfoward about 10 days, and I'm trying to download a game and the same issue happens. Within 30 seconds it shoots my internet until I stop the download and either give it 5-10 minutes and it'll come back to life on its own or restart the router.
On my TP-Link AC1900 router, it actually started flashing orange when the internet went down. On my ASUS, I don't see any light changes that I can see but the internet still goes down. Modem is Netgear CMS500.
Is it possible that whatever virus/etc I had on the PC ended up being a hardware based one and I'm now screwed? I'm not sure how to even start with the diagnostic of my issue.
I am tech savvy in the sense that I built all my PCs since I was 11, I've found the culprit for 95% of my issues myself and google, but I am not an expert enough to know where to begin on this one.
